  • Annother Antique For Sale

    In the Indianapolis area here is an old B or C boat. 11ft long with a 13" transom so it would be a stock class boat or a mod before stick towers were allowed (which was in the late 70's I believe) and the boat is likely that old. Topsides look pretty nice, but the bottom is painted, so that could hid a lot of sins...

    Anybody know who was 25H back then???

    Starboard throttle for service engines, some may like that? Right about the painted bottom hiding stuff. Nice top side, what is polly deck?

        the deck is to smooth for it to be fabric (no stringers showing).Probably the poly is polyurathane.

            If it was a miserable boat, that could have been why it survived... It didn't get run enough to get worn out!!!

            If it's a Coutts (which I doubt), it doesn't have the original Coutts cowl with its characteristic funny bump in the profile.

          I don't think that is a Coutts.Dave is right the cowling is way wrong.
          I drove some Coutts thaught they drove good. Don't forget I could't stay in a Sid craft so what would I know.
          Didn't the 1958 swifts have the long cowlings.

            Jim Coutts won a lot of 1960s DSH (also maybe) CSH races in Region 2 with his boats w/ the avant-garde (at the time) fiberglass nose cowls .. with his trademark bump in them.

            I last saw Jim at his Honda Motorcycle dealership a little west of Syracuse, oh ... about 1971. He'd quit racing boats several years before. I think I'd just acquired my cast-iron 250 Koenig and was pumped to tell him about it.

            "Are you gonna get the new Honda car dealership, too?" Jim I asked.

            "I have a bid in for it," he said. That's the last I heard. If he got it and managed it OK, he might well have gone out well-heeled.

          Smittythewelder posted Ray Ogier's catalogue ( I had one in the 60's) on BRF. One picture shows Jon Stone in a Coutts inside an Ogier C or D.

            Wow..... Another voice from the past.... How are you doing Leigh "Flyer" Furnal?? Good I hope. I think the last time we spoke was at the 1986 Nationals in Wakefield.

            Your boats were the best..... Lots of National Champions...... You, Jon Stone, Bob Wartinger, Jeff Hutchins....... Just to name a few.

              Coutts had the Honda shop in Phoenix N.Y.He never got the car dealership.He put a mini storage across the street.
              He sold out and went to Fl.About 7 or 8 years ago Stone, Pat Davids and myself went to see him in Parish Fl,
              He was doing well.
              Dean good to hear from you. things are good we live 6 months in N.Y.and the other 6 in Fl.
              I can remember the two of us in the bar in Orriville (sp) playing pool.Great time.

                    I don't believe that's either a B/C or a D Ogier. It appears to me to be all-wood, whereas the Ogier plans called for usual fabric decking of the mid-'60s. Yes, the builder could have built an all-wood Ogier, but the non-trips look too flat, the bow curves aren't the same. That cowl is not like late Swift cowls I saw, either. Maybe it's a homebrew design.

                    The paint looks good, but the varnished wood in the cockpit looks awfully dark, like it had been left out in the weather, then dried out and refinished. Maybe it's okay, maybe it's only good for a display.

                      I think this is the Coutts that I owned for a number of years. I purchased the boat from Karl Spandau. It won several national championships in the NOA days. Karl got the boat back from me and made a mold from it for glass production. (That was his business) He made several of these and they also were good performing boats. Karl later put a glass deck on the original boat. I am pretty sure this is our orginal wood boat with his glass deck on the top side. The boat has been around for some 45 years now

                        I had a feeling that someone here would know the boat, it's a pretty distinctive looking boat so it would be pretty hard not to recognize it. Do you know what year it was built and what class it ran? The seller is saying it was 11 ft long, which would make it a B or a C class boat, what class did it run at the time???

                          The boat was originally built for D stock. It made an excellent C mod boat. (NOA AmPro in those days). It would have been built in the 60s. I set the first APBA CMH 5 mile competition record in this boat in 1972 in Evansville, IN at a blazing speed of 49.29 mph. (Hard to believe by today's standards)
