I'm in the market for a new helmet. I haven't bought one in over 10 years so there has to be some neat new stuff.

Let me know what's out there.

At the last region safety meeting, Bob Wartinger recommended staying below 1500 grams in weight. Bring a postal scale when you are shopping.

Just returned from SEMA show in Las Vegas. I quit Simpson when Bill left but, I checked out their new "carbon fiber" Bandit. It is really a nice piece. And, not too terribly expensive. I did a google search and found one for like $800. Make sure you get to try them on for a proper fit. Bryan

ARAI..............Val and i have been wearing ours since 2005. One of the only manufactures with 120 degree perifeial (typo) vision and a flip shield!!! If interested call me for the model number. The extra side vision is nice so you don't have a blind spot!! Matt

            Tim,

Link from this old thread -> https://hydroracer.net/forums/forum/m...303-new-helmet

I've worn it for 45 minute stints in a car, it's not too bad.

~~Here is a re-post from a previous thread (Painting Helmets)
While I am far from the worlds foremost expert on helmets and helmet testing I do sell helmets and meet with manufacturer representatives almost every day. All technology aside there are only two kinds of helmets as it pertains to there construction. One is plastic, they might call it advanced polymer or polycarbonate but they are still plastic. These helmets are usually under $200.00. The other kind of construction is fiberglass, these are usually layered with kevlar and or carbon fiber and usually cost $220.00+. I feel that in a crash (like a skid fin to the head) the plastic lid could split open like an egg. While the fiberglass lid might stay intact. Imagine setting two helmets on the ground one plastic one fiberglass/kevlar, then hit them with an AX!!! you decide.
Secondly fit, studies find that most are wearing a helmet that is at least one size to big. Put a helmet on, if your fingers will fit in between your forehead and the helmet it is to big. It wont make much difference on the density of the polystyrene and its ability do absorb impact if your pulling excess Gs when sloshing around in a big ole bucket.
In my opinion... Get yourself a good fiberglass lid that fits correctly and break out the Krylon.

                Matt,

Can you message me with the information ? I am in the market and the side vision I currently have is what I want. I am rather particular about what helmet I buy. I would like to check these out.

Tim: I am in the market as well, mine was brand new in 2002. Let me know what you decide on. I am leaning towards a Simpson. Joe
