Strobe Light Attached to Life Jacket

That is a good point however I am not sure that you can have too many warnings on the course. Say the rescue boat can turn one on. Even better to get the drivers attention and make them aware of an issue. Then they would also see the driver/boat with one on it.

I would never consider trying to make this a rule but I will most likely try it out. Having someone come at you at 100mph and having to debate what side of the boat to jump off is enough for me to give this a shot.

I would not attach this to my helmet because of the same reasons not to put a go-pro on it. I was thinking attached to the shoulder on my life jacket.

I'm in to try this, don't want to make it a rule though. If you can figure out a way to mount it somewhere and triggered by pulling the kill switch you may be on to something!

I was thinking about using an additional kill switch lanyard attached to the cockpit side behind the driver on the opposite to side of the mounted kill switch and then attached to the strobe on the same side of the shoulder of the life jacket. Just a thought, hope that sentence makes sense. I'm checking to see if the strobe is a one time use or can be reset to be used more than once.

SeaBat I understood what you meant. Some thought does have to be put into placement of a lanyard for sure. I have looked at the website for that info also.

TheRapidfire strobe is only 2 x 3 inches, has a 10 year battery life so this appears to be a reusable device. The video on site shows deployment of light mounted to pull lanyard when life jacket inflates. The tether is similar to our existing shut off switches.

ACR also has some nice water activated ones too but I can't say how they react to rooster tails. I am familiar with the ones that Col. Stotts mentioned. The ones i saw were miodified to fit inside the M79 grenade launcher

They state in More Information: "Tamper Tab" breaks to indicate light........ The breaks part bothers me. When I break stuff it isn't usually usable after that.

ACR/ARTEX replied to my request about the ability to reset. The tab can be reinserted to shut off the strobe and is ready to be activated again if pulled out when you take your next swim.

Seems to me like drivers/teams could just try this on their own, for their own safety. If it catches on then more drivers are more easily visible. No need to make another rule I am all for doing what ever makes you the safest. We shouldn't rely on rules to make us safe because they really don't, we make ourselves safe by the choices that we make. I say you can't fix stupid only shut it up with duct tape. (Getting my duct tape out now......) I like the strobe light idea!
