  • Changing plug wires on a 102..........

In my attempt to remove a spark plug wire from one of the coils on my 102, after pulling and twisting it finally came out. However, it did leave the steel core wire still attached down inside the coil. This wire broke off right at the opening in the coil where the plug wire goes in. Any ideas on how these wires are supposed to be installed/removed and why is this wire stuck in my coil?
    Thanks

No Can Do (without a lot of work)

    Hey Dick,
Those spark plug wires are cast in place with the coil, at least in the
ones I have had. Was thinking that the only way to repair them is to make
a mold of the coil at the spark plug end, grind away the the plastic where
the wire goes in, solder new wire in place and then re-cast the coil where
the wire goes in with the mold. Was starting to do this "way back when" but
was another project that never got finished. With all the new "mold it
yourself" kits out there, it should be easier than ever but not sure what is
compatible with the plastic used on the coil......I haven't found a thing
that West System won't fix but not sure about this one. Good luck.

You will need to buy a NEW COIL from Montoya. However, Tom Johnston(TJ) has had good success repairing.

No, don't buy a new coil, these are very slavagable. I replace the wires in all the Yamatos I have just so we have some contemporary looking flexible wires with decent boots. There have been threads here on HR on how to replace the wires and several other guys have followed my directions and had good results. Check the message archieves and you'll be using those coils for years.

I looked back in the archives for anything relating to this and didn't find anything . I would appreciate it if you could email me at "rcracerva@yahoo.com" and give me some kind of idea on how others fix this problem.

          Thanks
