I believe I am the original builder of that trailer.. Was my first shot at building one... I built it as a 2 boat only trailer,, but the box was too big..
I traded the trailer to Steve Johnson in Minnesota for a Yamato 80.. To make the trade I had to add the top bunk to accomodate 2 more boats.
The 1/2" round rod running underneath the main frame tubing acted as a gusset as I felt the tubing would bow really bad with the weight of 4 boats.
Steve eventually bent the axle which was only a 2000 # axle. I am making an assumption that the trailer went to Joe Zolkoske in Wisconsin.
The proof in the pudding would be that if you pulled off the skin which was .015 galvanized mobile home roof material,,, which was entirely too heavy,,,
AND there was 5/8" plywood underneath,,, then I would say that the trailer was built by me in 1986.. Please let me know.. Dave Viola from Kansas.

Dave, I think you may have found your long lost trailer. Yep, acquired from Joe in Wisconsin and yep, galvanized siding over a 5/8” sheet box.

Why do / did you think the box was too big? Did you think it was too big for just two boats?

Thought it was too big for a 2 cyl. class trailer,, unless you had a LOT of motors..

Forgot to ask.. AT 29 years old,,, were the welds still in good shape??? I know the axle had to be replaced
do to too much weight.. That would have been done by Steve Johnson.
    Working...
