    Matt,
Thank you. It was fun and worth it. I don't think Gary was grumpy at all, at least to me. And you are a lot cuter than your posts!
    Love ya,

      Roberts Rules

Roberts Rules are used in parlimentary procedure and are referenced in the APBA BY-Laws as indicated by Ryan.

Chairman you fall back on "unamimous Consent" for the passing of the motion that I can't find anywhere.

Not knowing much about Roberts rules I looked this up in "Survival Tips on Roberts Rules of Order".

Unanimous consent- In cases where there seems to be no opposition in routine business; or on questions of little importance; and in the presences of a quorum; you can save time by obtaining unanimous consent from the assembly.

Obviously I don't consider this routine or of little importance.

Apparently they are conducting category meetings in the hospitality room now,
a place intended for socializing and a good time. Things have changed since I've been at a national meeting.

Ed your right I'll never see it because you can't show me where in the minutes it is.

        Enough!

Kevin (the one in NY): I really don't know how to explain this to you any better than I already have, but I'll try again: The SORC has zero authority to do anything with APBA By Laws. Therefore, any discussion of the matter with them outside of the motion to grant the Winternationals to Alex., LA, is of "little importance" and there would be no motion required since, nothing that the SORC does can have any effect whether a single-day member can participate at this event or not. It is not in the SORC minutes because the minutes only record ACTION upon matters taken at the meeting. Look that up in your hand book on Robert's rules as well. Minutes are not a record of what is said, they are a record of what is done at a meeting. Thus, there is no reason for any commission to formally adopt a motion since it would be without effect anyway. Routinely, the SORC asks the Chair to go to the BOD to try to obtain relief from the BOD. But these are not in the form of motions.

However, the SORC could have surely voted down the grant of the bid to the Louisiana race site based upon this information about seeking a change in the ByLaws for Single Day Memberships for the race. Thus, what you are looking for in the minutes of the SORC meeting is right there: the SORC (and MORC) granted the bid to Louisiana. Moreover, the matter is clearly contained in the APBA BOD minutes of the annual meeting.

You keep saying that you're not opposed to this race and only concerned with whether proper procedure was followed and that our APBA is working like it should. I don't believe it, however. If your interest was really in whether APBA is working properly, then why did you not review the APBA BOD minutes back in February when they were posted (to satisfy your general concerns about this) and then attend one of the BOD meetings since then or ask your region Chairman (who is a member of APBA Council and invited to attend every BOD meeting and is required to be heard under APBA Bylaws) to do it for you and ask that the BOD undo what it had done? If you were really interested in whether APBA was working properly, it seems to me that this is the course you would have taken.

But, that's just what I think and, according to Anna, I'm wrong quite often.

Kevin: they have not changed at all. The meetings don't take place in the hospitality room, but the negotiations and ear bendings have always taken place there. These are fueled by mixes of consumable materials that are usually legal only as motor fuels in the Pro Category. And this was offered up as an explanation as to why some might not remember things that happend at the meeting AFTER attendance in the Hospitality Room. Do I have to spell it out for you any better???

You really should come to Ft. Lauderdale. Ed.

i dont get ther way eirler comment about points it racer A has 4000 racer B has 3750 and C has 3650 if racer X comes in and wins but has NO points coming in how has he effected the point standings ?racers A,B,C all have the points they had + the points they got at the race. Racer X is still at the bottom even with his win so whats the point of biatchin about it????

I am amazed that no motion is required by the commission to have the Chair approach the BOD when it requires its aide particularly when rule changes are involved, if for no other reason but to properly do***ent the action.

I just don't see a trail demonstrating the commissions consent for a rule waiver based on what I've read and been told by attending members.

Next let me ask a question about the waiver itself:

                8. Ed Hearn requested a waiver for the Single Event members at the (pending) 2006 Stock Outboard Winter National Championships. The SE members would be allowed to race at the event, however if a SE member won a championship in a given class they would not be recognized as the National Champion and no National Champion would be recognized in that class.
**Motion duly made and 2nd that a waiver for the event be recognized and an exemption given for the 1st time this event is held. Motion passed

From what I read this waiver is for the STOCK outboard winter nationals.

There is no mention of the MODIFIED category so can it be assumed it is not binding on the mod category and that category will race under the rules in the APBA rule book.

This is why.. and Roll Call

This is why a lot of folks switched to NBRA and AOF........ now someone has taken a much needed and long overdue step to get us back together and it certainly appears to have become a ***** fest.

Swallow pride for one time, and look past the HOC, and all that and do what is best for the sport, not yourself.

Rick Miller, SEH/FEH is shaping up to be one hell of a battle. DMH is as well. I won't count on Bryan being there..... he seems to be busy at work all the time....... hehehehe..... As for Ralph Cook being a top notch runner on his turf, anyone that runs against him better have their stuff running faster than we we going this past Nat's in PA. He is much faster than that, I know I was off the pace a lot there. I have raced him on his own turf, and he made me eat the turf ! And the gator bites at Tunks. As far a Bad Burt goes, I have seen his transom several times.......... I just learned to anticpate his zig for zags and there you go !

I will have to see if I can convince myself to come to a race this next season.

A chance to race against the best in the country all in one spot..... it might be to good to believe. Maybe if we put some fun back into racing we can come.

What to do When Fitzracing Cries

The best way to handle most crying episodes is to respond quickly and try to meet Fitzracing's needs. Many racers are afraid that responding immediately to Fitzracing's cries will spoil the child. This belief is a common mistake--and a big one! You are not going to spoil Fitzracing by giving him or her attention. In fact, if you answer calls for help, Fitzracing will probably cry less overall. Sometimes the longer Fitzracing cries, the more upset he or she becomes, and the more difficult it becomes to calm Fitzracing.

When Fitzracing cries, first assess the situation and meet the most pressing need. For example, change the diaper, feed, burp, or change position of Fitzracing. Once the basic needs are covered, there are many ways to help calm Fitzracing, most having to do with providing reassuring contact and a pleasant environment. Sometimes there's nothing more reassuring and nurturing than skin-to-skin contact and a relaxed environment. Try one or another of the following to calm Fitzracing:

                    - Rocking Fitzracing gently in your arms, while standing or sitting in a rocking chair
                    - Gently stroking Fitzracing's head
                    - Patting back or chest
                    - Wrapping Fitzracing snug in a blanket
                    - Singing or talking
                    - Playing soft music
                    - Walking (in arms, stroller, or carriage)
                    - Riding in car
                    - Burping to relieve gas
                    - Giving a warm bath
                    - Changing locations (from light to dark)
                    - Changing locations (from quiet to less quiet or vice-versa)

Here's another useful hint. Fitzracing likes a constant low-pitched sound or vibration. Believe it or not, many racers swear that they can calm Fitzracing by putting them in a secure boat seat or Fitzracing carrier and placing them on top of a running clothes dryer. Be careful, though. Never leave Fitzracing alone for a moment on top of a running clothes dryer. The dryer's vibration can cause the boat seat/carrier to slide off and seriously injure Fitzracing. Running the vacuum cleaner is a popular strategy as well.

Hints such as the ones above help illustrate an important point about managing Fitzracing's crying. No one strategy works for members of Fitzracing. If you find something that works, stick with it. There's no need to experiment any further if you've found that "special trick" for Fitzracing.

                    • As a mother and grandmother, I think I can help:

Rocking Fitzracing gently in your arms, while standing or sitting in a rocking chair
Put Fitz in a Tom Nuccios roll up B runabout. He will get plenty of rocking.
                      - Gently stroking Fitzracing's head
Won’t touch that one with a ten foot pole….
                      - Patting back or chest
When Fitz arrives at race, everyone give him a great big hug and slobbery kiss.
                      - Wrapping Fitzracing snug in a blanket
Or lifejacket and send him out to play.
                      - Singing or talking
101 bottle of beer on the wall….
                      - Playing soft music
Or send him out in a CSH and let him hear the quiet roar of the yamato.
                      - Walking (in arms, stroller, or carriage)
During FE race, Ralph Cook will pass Fitz so fast that he will have the sensation of walking.
                      - Riding in car
1200 miles to Alex from NY
                      - Burping to relieve gas
After alligator tail and a few margaritas
                      - Giving a warm bath
Guarantee the lake won’t be frozen.
                      - Changing locations (from light to dark)
                      Or north to south
                      - Changing locations (from quiet to less quiet or vice-versa)
From internet to race course in Alex

                      • The SE Rule change...

... is for the event. Thus, it applies to SO, MOD, J and any other classes on the circular. That also means if we invite the offshore guys, they get to run their class for a winternational title too. What ever happend to those Offshore-sponsored Stock Outboard World Championships anyway?

                        • From the outside looking in...

It appears the Stock, Mod, APBA, AOF and MBRA memberships are all for this and very excited.

It also appears that this was well thought out and all bases were discussed and covered prior to obtaining approval from APBA. Ed and Connie have worked hard on putting this together and working out the kinks.

Proper procedure is important and basing concerns on hear say and not first hand information is treading dangerously.

I think at this point it is okay to agree to disagree and move on to the task at hand. Make this what it is sounding out to be a great outboard competiton. Truly to win a race here is to win a Championship.

I realize that this is a great forum to hash stuff out but we also need to use it to infuse life into and grow this great sport we all are so passionate about.

I tell you that if you guys have enough $$ you really need to consider call AeroFx and getting this on the Outdoor Channel. Get some people on the ground and get out some posters and call the local media. This can be big publicity for all of outbaord racing.

Good luck to all of you....Alex is a great race site and Tunks is fantastic. Have a cajun martini for me!!
