  • new boats for 2006

Even though there is still racing going on in some parts of the country, Region 7 drivers are already gearing up for 2006 by getting/building new boats.

the Allens picked up yet another boat at Oshkosh for AXSH and ASH. The boat itself is'nt new, but new to them.

Angela Olson will be getting a new ASR this winter. Jennifer and Roger Pickle are building a new Sorensen ASR for Jennifer. Two other current ASR drivers are drawing up plans for new boats, can't say who just yet, but let's just say that this may turn a few heads. Dennis Shaw has a 25SSH AND and CSH on order. I would expect Bill Hemp to get a new boat or two as his OSY and ASH boats were sold during the course of the season.

There may be a few more boats in the works as well, but the plans are not finalized just yet.

Who else out there is getting new lumber this winter?

    New Boats

I will be building Sean Augustine a new C-Stock, as well as building my brother Chris a new C-Stock this winter.

I have also sold five sets of plans so far this year so there will be many drivers making their debut in the boat building arena.

Sounds like things are heating up for 2006 and 2005 isn't even over yet.

Marc, will you be posting pics of the progress for the two boats you are building this winter? There are many of us who would love to see progress pics, especially when we've heard of some new construction techniques you may be using.

I agree with Joe, would love to see how things are going in the Roper shop. It is great that we will get to see the new ideas this summer.
I just think you should make Sean's really SLOW especially since he doesn't play well with the other Roper team members and also gets scared easily at high speeds

                Aerowing

The only reason I even listed a butts aerowing is out of respect to Tim, BECAUSE I ASSURE THERE IS NO COMPARISON IN THE QUALITY OF A RAWSONCRAFT COMPARED TO A BUTTS. THAT IS WHY 25 YEARS AFTER DAVE QUIT BOAT RACING HE STILL GETS CALLS TO BUILD BOATS.

                BUT WHATEVER!!!!

                    Rawson Boats..........

Just a short note to say that I have more respect for Dave Rawson than most. He gave me most of my wins coming up through the PRO field in AOH, BOH, and anything else he asked me to drive...........from the mid 60's until Tim Butts built my 700 hydro in the early 70's. Dave Rawson was still putting the varnish on the bottom of my BOH hydro as we were loading it on the top of our van headed for Depue. I lived at Dave's house after I got out of college and learned some amazing techniques on how to build a boat that would not only be fast but strong enough to last many seasons with no worries. Tim was a different animal regarding design compared to speed. The larger classes had comfort built in with a comparatively safe ride as long as you listened to him and didn't get too far out of the envelope. Tim is still out there watching and I still stop at Dave's house when I am down in south FL. I think they both still have ideas that would not only make our sport safer, but faster as well......................

                      Wrong Dave

I am talking about Dave Rawson in Canada...

One in Region 5 I know of.

Bob and Andy Mackrell have a new B&H ASH boat. I saw it at Jesup and it looked nice.

                          Differences

                          Hey Matt,

The Rawsoncraft (Canada) boats were in similarity like a butts aerowing just built stronger. This is the boat design that we talked about in the post from a couple weeks ago with the bottom differences etc... The only reason I am building the rawsoncraft for the guy is for a vintage look. It was a pro design from the mid to late 70's. the design and boat spent much time in the Ottawa wind tunnel getting every test run on it you can imagine to make improvement in the deck design, transfer of angles etc... the boat always relied on the power you were using to make it work properly. The merc 40 or 44 of that time did not have the power to make the boat do what is was designed to do, which was run parallel to the water line after reaching certain speeds as per driver weight etc... This will most certainly cause you problems because with a merc, if it takes you 3/4 of the straight to get your boat to max acceleration then you have already lost your race.

                          Regards,

Sorry Dave.........I didn't know Canada also had a Dave Rawson. If he is near as talented as the one we have down here, he is one of the best. Unfortunately for us, our Dave Rawson is building Super Yachts now. Bob and Andy Mackrell, mentioned a couple of posts back can also tell you about Dave and his abilities............

don't expect to see many new Arltralites next year. the price of carbon fiber lately just does'nt make it worth wile.
