The race was held as always by Whidbey Island Roostertails, a small but outstanding independent racing club. Heart Lake is one of the finest short course courses to run anywhere, and situated at the foot of the San Juan Islands, is a drop-dead gorgeous place to go boat racing.
WIR used to hold 6-7 events there a year; the tree-huggers and armchair ecologists have now got it whittled down to one, and there on about a year-by-year basis as to whether they even get that one. Let's hope it doesn't go away....it truly is one of the treasures among race sites.
