Is anyone in the south or southeast running or plan on running d-stock? I know d-mod is pretty strong here and with the new changes to that class with the motor options I was wondering if any d-mod guys were going to put some stocker's together?? and run them on there mod boats.Would like to here some input .thanks mike

Hard to go wrong with C stock or D mod. Both of those classes are usually well represented at most stock or mod races and every organization has a class for them. For some reason the D stock class hasn't done very well in the south. Maybe it will now that there are two different motors (the 44XS from Scott and the Tohatsu from Bass) being built by people that are truly interested in boat racing (as opposed to being built by a company looking only at the bottom line).
If you really want to hedge your bet, buy a C mod boat and a D mod boat. Also buy/build C mod, D mod, 125cc, and 175cc motors. Run the C mod motor and the 125cc motor on the smaller boat and the D mod motor and the 175cc motor on the larger boat. Nuthin' to it!...
OMC FE/SE powerhead parts for sale. Kurcz ported block, Mod 50 pistons and cylinder head, exhaust, etc.

402ss
I just bought a Merc 402SS and was thinking on running it. Anyone out there still using this engine. Will have to build a nother boat but if there is a class running in the south east I will go for it. Dose anyone have any data on the 402. Need to obtain some of the info on the engine. Have lots of Merc A&B but nothing on this engine.

Super Thunderbolts???
I thought it was a decent idea to allow the old style 44 Mercs into the D stock classes, but where are they? We haven't seen any here in the midwest. Have any cropped up anywhere? Canada? I am trying to understand why there seems to be a big push for something and then no one steps up to make it happen.
On the 402 Merc, BIG flywheel = BIG trouble waiting for the thing to slow down to make the corner. Like a 25xs on steroids, everything is magnified. It would be OK for a lake racer, but tough to compete with the 4 cylinders.

Alan, the 402x/35ss engine has not been raced in many years. It is a legal D Stock engine, but not close to being competitive with the 44xs. I think the 402 should be moved to C Mod where it would be more competive.
The specs are lost at APBA, only the chief inspector has them and I have not been able to get him to respond to my phone calls.
The motor is nothing more than a std 35/40 hp powerhead adapted to a Mk55H type tower and foot.
Years ago there was a separate "35ss" class that the 402x/35ss ran in by itself, but it fizzled pretty quickly.

rules on thunderbolts
the superthunderbolts are what I was thinking of building but still not sure on the complete rules for that motor.The only thing is I was hoping to see others in the S and SE. put some together.the guys that run d-mod can run the same boat ,thats what I like about the idea but I dont need anymore motors that dont have enough to run at a race (have someof those already).I will probebly get a yamy and try c stock so tim will stop riding me.maybe I will just bring 7or8 motors and 4 boats to a race and see what shows(dont think my back could handle that).yamys are a great motor,I just like to tinker and mod"s that use junkyard motors are fun to play with and fairly cheap.

The Old D Stocks
The thunderbolts that they allowed back into DSH is basically creating filler for 3rd place and back. Not many in the stock form can win against a true 44xs. So I doubt you will see very many mod guys run it in DSH when you don't stand a chance of winning outright. The 44xs guys stand a bette chance at winning in DMH than the old mercs do in DSH.
The 44XS is a good match in NBRA to be run with the 40CI D class. Tough to beat those Kansas City folks though....... next year maybe.....Dave Mason

you might want to also consider 125cc and 250cc. There are some "home made" Kaw's and Yama's out there that could be purchased for a reasonable amount and maintained with "junkyard and e-bay". With your size, the 250cc would be a good fit and a good ride. Races in Florida and now Jesup! Gas and methanol cost about the same today.
Best of all, you can tinker to your hearts delight! Also, in 5 years it will still be legal, if not competitive with the brand new engine. Any engine that ever ran 250cc in APBA would still be legal today (I think).David Weaver
