It's that time of year again where we all head to Lake Lawrence in Yelm, WA to run the big, surveyed record courses. It's also the time and place where the annual Push Boat Nationals happens!
If you don't know what a Push Boat is, it's a small hand held plywood hydro that is "pushed". The Push Boat Nationals is a distance competition. These little craft actually travel quite far and have been increasing the world record each year. Last year's PBN National Champion John Peeters holds the record at over 70 feet!
Things are on schedule for the PBN. I'm just about done with another batch of pushboats. Trophies are ordered. My wife, Ellen, and I will be shopping and putting together those goodie bags that the participants get when they register.
I've already received several calls and received some checks and prize donations for the event. We are very fortunate to have a good base of sponsors that support this event every year. Because of them, there is no entry fee. Trophies, prizes and goodie bags are all provided. I'll be sure to name all of these generous sponsors at a later time, but I do appreciate their support.
If you can help with a small cash donation or with a prize, the kids would really appreciate it this weekend. As you may know, when the kids register for the PBN, they get a goodie bag and perhaps other giveaways as well. Then, their name goes into a raffle where all of these prizes are raffled off. Every kid only gets their name put on 1 raffle ticket so with all the prizes, almost everyone wins something.
If all this Push Boat stuff is new to you, check out the link to Mike Johnson's photo page of last year's event.

Hopefully, you have been busy working on your latest push boat design. Remember, besides the overall farthest distance, there are 3 age groups: 0-6 (J class), 7-13 (C Stockers) and 13 and over (Masters Division). Then, there is the coveted Concourse D'Elegance or best looking boat.
Who will be this year's new PBN Champion? Will it be you? I'm almost as excited as all the kids (and big kids, that's you) about this weekend. The PBN will be held after the final heat Saturday night.
And as always, I challenge all of you "big" kids. Usually, the Masters division is the smallest class, but I think last year it had a respectable turnout. So, I double dog dare you to sign up for the PBN. Yer not skeered, are ya?
See you this weekend. Call me or email me with any questions or offers of help.
Thanks,
Bill Blackwell
