  • Any hydroplaners in Western Canada

HI, I'm in Calgary Alberta, Canada and wondering if there are any stock outboard racers around here or in this vicinity (AB, BC, SK etc). I'm planning on building one but I don't wanna be the only one around here running around in circles by myself. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Boats...

    Henry,

There is quite a lot of racing around Spokane Washington. How far are you from Spokane?

Lots of luck and Best Regards,

      A few miles...

Calgary to Spokane is a pretty good clip at about 720mi., but we know there are several folks that make some very long hauls to races. Maybe Edmonton, Red Deer or Kelowna might have some folks (a little closer)? Spokane to Seattle is like Calgary to Edmonton. If you are interested in heading down this way, feel free to give a shout.

Pose question to Crankbearing (aka Dave Scott): I know you're in eastern Canada, but do you know anyone out in the western half?

      Thanks,

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna keep hunting around. I was in Seattle and Spokane a few years ago drag racing, fantastic cities.

          Western Racers!!

          Hey Henry,

I wanted to reply when you first posted. But I have been going through my records to see if I have any contacts from the west. Don Brown in SK has some stuff and I think that you should get in touch with him. I will try and find you his w-mail address or may be he will see this post and get in touch with you.

I do not know of anyone on your neck of the woods for racing, but the old saying is always if you build it they will come. I would start with a picture or two in a local paper and see if you get any replies.

I have always driven DSH and never would want to drive any other class and still feel that way. When I got back in about 5 years ago there was one in Eastern Canada we now have at least 7 all the time and several interesed parties up and coming this year.

Buying a used outfit cheap and running it around your local hot spots will tweak some interest and you can build from there. I will be glad to help you out however I can. You can always make a long trip once or twice a year to get a couple races out west and that will make your investment a good one and you will have some fun until you can generate the classes in your area.

We have no national advertising in the CBF that I know about and marketing is not a viable solution $$$ wise. But if we were to contact the local hobby shops and gets some videotapes out in the rental shops that is cheap advertising and gives you a captive audience to watch them. I have some marketing ideas and would love to share them with you if you like.

          Regards,
          Dave Scott
