What does your club use to time laps

I need a name brand and what works well to time laps for our scorer and how do you get it calabrated ???

we use a seiko timer printer ("T") series similar to the seiko S-149

If you type in Stop Watch on a search engine, you will be able to peruse many different types. USTS uses the Seiko printer stopwatch, bought it in 1990 still going strong. It is about $300. If you don't need the printer, there are various models available that will time laps for around $30.

Do you have to time all 12 boat for each lap or do you time the first 6 only for all three laps??? I find a 6 LANE 8 LANE and 10 lane timer will that work Ultrak L 10 ???

Timer

The scoring program has a built-in timer that will time all boats in the heat. I use it at every race. Based on each boat's time, it automatically calculates the points and inserts them into the program for each driver. CVRA also has a Seiko timer as a back-up that we have had for years which will time all boats in the heat. I prefer using the timer in the program, it saves time and effort. I don't have to write down any times and it automatically does the math if there is a tie on points.

AOF has a computer timing program that is similar to APBA's timng and scoring program. However, ours does times only and not the scoring end.
You click button when clock strkes 0 and then as boat come around for finish click as they cross. gives times and mph. I have even had it coordinated with the starting clock at some races so a human does not push the button.
I had this made up where my husband worked at Rockwell Collins. I figured since they make computer programs for space shuttles and GPS's they should be able to do this. Finally found an engineer that did a similar project for national speech contests. Not sure why.
Number of boats is endless, as is the APBA program that I have used.

I researched this timing stuff for years. I was amazed when I had this program made over ten years ago that there wasn't more out there that would work. What we really need is transponders in the boats and automatic read outs to the computer.
Offshore uses them and they really aren't that expensive. Wouldn't that be great? You could figure everything from gun jumpers to lap times to finals and your points are all figured and come out of the computer to the announcer. The same transponders could be used multiple times in each race, and handed out to each participant in each class. Or, drivers could buy their own and use for testing purposes programmed to thier own computers.
