  • Randy Johnson

For those of you who haven't heard, Randy Johnson (Chris and Marc's dad) passed away yesterday morning.

Marc passed along the funeral home information to me, I'm not sure when the service is going to be yet:

    Forbis and Dick Funeral Home
    (336) 275-8408
    1118 N. Elm St.
    Greensboro, NC 27401

I spent a lot of time at Mr. Randy and Mrs. Kay's house in the '90's and never felt like I was anywhere but home. You just never forget when people treat you that way.

      Childhood Hero

Our heartfelt condolences Marc and Chris. Randy was a great competitor and super nice gentleman. He was a childhood boat racing hero to me. A mountain of a man that loved to run those Loopers!! I always remember Randy taking Kay for rides at Camden in the D-Looper!

              Marc,

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your extended family. Randy & I raced against each other in the late 60's & early 70's in the pro category. Mostly when I came to region 4 from NJ. We got to be fairly good friens as My dad and Hassel did as well. I don't know if you are aware that there is a picture posted on Ron Hill's site from the 1970 pro nationals at Depue showing Randy & myself.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY from Char & Tim

We send our regrets and sympathy to Mrs Kay, Kim, John, Chris, Marc & Beth for their loss. I have very fond memories of visiting with the Johnsons at their home. I think they invented the term "Southern Hospitality". Long days pretending to help Marc in the boat shop. Watching the clock. Waiting for Randy and Chris to come home from work so I could sneak away and listen to stories from Randy's past. Sitting outside the boat shop laughing as Clyde ate Marc's boat plans. Randy once said that I was the only yankee welcome in his North Carolina. I hope he new how much that ment to me.

                    Thank you to all.

I just want to send this heartfelt thank you to all of you guys and your support. I always considered, as I'm sure all of you have, our sport as much as an extended family as a sport. My Dad loved racing, and always wanted to know how things went whenever I'd return home. He taught me so much, and I was still learning from him to this day. I know he'll always watch over me.

My special thanks to Tim Borway, who stayed here with us and helped us through the last few days, especially with my brother Marc. Also, to Sean Augustine, Janet Stoy and Dave Howard who made a very special trip Friday from the racesite night to see us in Greensboro. I will never forget it.

I hated to hear about the wind demons at Camden, I surely would have liked to have been there, and I'm sure my Dad would have also. Also, sorry to hear about Dave Howard's spill, to Dave: Heal up soon my friend!!

                    Best regards,
                    Chris Johnson

                      Sad day

I just wanted to extend condolences to Marc, Chris and the entire family. We enjoyed a lot of good stories and remembrances about Randy at Lakeland last weekend. There were a lot of people there that raced with him and loved sharing stories about Randy and the old days.
