    A definite maybe

    Craig,

I don't want to say definitely yes and then not show, so this is a definite maybe for CSR and CMR for a Friday & Saturday schedule.

But here's my thinking. Since the travel time and travel expenses are about the same for a one day race versus a two day race, a two day race makes it more worthwhile to be there, and more likely that I'll show.

With enough notice, taking some extra time off work is not a problem. My family just won't see me as many days around Christmas as they have the past two years.

We shouldn't be afraid of the competing races that are scheduled on Sunday. Someone told me that one year Denton, Maryland scratched the racing program and had some sort of outdoor festival. It was such a flop that boat racing was invited back the following year and every year since. Can anyone confirm this?

And if the drags >>do<< put on a better show Sunday, then maybe it's time to try some of the ideas that have been presented here on hydroracer.net to spruce up the sport. Of all the positions and opinions expressed here, I don't think anyone has brought up a scenario where we lose a race site or a race day because our sport >>isn't exciting enough<< for spectators compared to another on-the-water event. Not an argument, just a thought.

Sharptown Maryland: Two or Three Days?

      Sam,

The APBA site only shows Sharptown, Maryland for Saturday and Sunday only. Was the sanction application submitted for all three days? Is three days definite?

        Sharptown race

The tentative dates were put on the APBA website before we decided Sharptown would be a 3 day race (4th of July weekend). I need to make sure someone has cleared it with the proper people in Sharptown before I submit the sanction. As long as it is OK with them, Sharptown will be a 3 day race. I'll let everybody know as soon as I now.

This is very true!! I hope everyone can make the trip! The Rumson Runne's will be there late Saturday night or Sunday morning, we have work-related events on Saturday!!

Now the drag boat group says they need all of Sunday... Jack Crain and his boat club have created a great race at a good site. He and I are both disapointed at this turn of events. We are left with several options.

            1. Run a sponsored Saturday only race...

            2. Run a Friday Saturday race (the sponsor will throw in $1500 extra if we run Friday).
Arriving late on Saturday won't work, racing on Sunday is not one of our options

forgot to mention, we are just spectating.. but i would like to put my 2 cents in.... i think you should run the Friday and Saturady schedule, and try to give prize money in order to draw more boats. Just a thought!

                If you can't beat'em ... join'em

I'm thinking of putting on a top cowling (no exposed flywheels allowed) and entering the Sport Racer class on Sunday's drag racing schedule with my winnings from Friday (hee-hee, yeah sure, right)

Anyone else interested in picking me off?

                  Seems like a good idea...

The Southern Division of the Runne's aren't going, but the Friday/Saturday race seems like it would make more sense. You get more racing in AND prize money. As long as people could make it that Friday I don't see what the problem would be. But like I said, we're not going. But whoever is, have fun, good luck and be safe

                    Just a thought...

Hey Craig, if we do end up with a small number of boats/classes, what if we ran multiple heats and finals like they do in the dirt world? Put something together where each driver races multiple times in one day, more than twice say. This would even justify prize money more, a more consistant driver would take home the winnings. I think it would be a more efficient race as well in that the same classes run multiple times, I know I can gas up for an extra heat quicker than I can swap motors for another class! No matter what, I'm going to Williamsport and turning a few laps for a friend who can't...

                      Idea

                      Hey Craig and all,

If you decide ona Fri/Sat schedule, and your goal is to put on a good show, try the following.

Instead of prize money, take part of the $1500 and feed everyone on Friday night. Take the balance of the $1500 and divide it among the people who raced on Friday - call it tow money or show money.

Prize money only benefits a few people, while food and tow money benefit everyone and could be an incentive for some to show up.

I also like Greg's idea for the format - could keep the fansinvolved for more of the day.

                          Status.........

Does anyone know the status of this 'sanction'?? I thought the 'deadline' on this matter was last Thursday................

We still favor the Friday/Saturday gig.

                                I'll change my answer

And since I've had time to study the family calendar, I'll upgrade my answer from a "definite maybe" to "barring unforeseen events" I'll be there on Friday.
