This summers Williampsort, Pa race is in jeapordy!
The sponsoring organization decided to add drag boats to the Sunday schedule. Reluctantly, we agreed to finish Sunday's schedule early.

Now the drag boat group says they need all of Sunday... Jack Crain and his boat club have created a great race at a good site. He and I are both disapointed at this turn of events. We are left with several options.

    1. Run a spomsored Saturday omly race...

    2. Run a Friday Saturday race (the sponsor will throw in $1500 extra if we run Friday.

    3. Race elsewhere.

Jack Crain has put a lot of effort into making this a first class event. Neither her or I are sure what to do. We invite your imput.

    Thanks,
    Craig Bowman :

    Hmmm....

If this race is sponsored, like expenses paid and some prize money, I think the party should go on. $1500 extra for Friday sounds good too.

Quick poll: Who would show on Friday?

Two years ago the water was almost too rough for us.
How was it last year? (I missed Williams Port 2004.)
If It's any thing like Loch Haven, they may want to wait and see if they can even run drags on/in that area.

It's tough enough getting through our own schedule.
Nothing against other APBA branches, but wouldn't they rather have their own event/date?

How many boats/classes are they talking about?

Could they even run inside/through/around our coarse if we were to stagger our classes with theirs?

I will Show to run a Fri/Sat schedule if that Happens, and teardown Sun. morning and watch drags.

Jack, I admire your efforts and enjoy watching your fly-bys in your inboard, but don't bite off more than we can chew/fit-in.

See if your vintage guys would fit/fill in with the drags on another date?

        Just my thoughts.

Another thing to consider is Sharptown, MD is scheduled to run Saturday, Sunday and Monday the weekend before. Travel home Monday night in July 4 traffic, sleep Tuesday, work Wednesday, travel to Williamsport on Thursday. My boss will hate it, I will love it

There's plenty of river front in that area.

Couldn't the drags run at same time?

Say down by were the river boat ties up? Then spectaters would be within walking distance of both events. The vendors/food would be in the middle of both.

Stage a dive team/ambulance in area between both events?

              Stagger Classes

Our Experinece with the OPC club is to alt classes. Works well.
allow enough time to let water calm down and go.
fills in the staging time that the opcs need. makes a good show. just be clear to have the big boats not mill around and put bumps in the course. flights of two SO classesrun both heats OPC both heats ect..
this could make for a great show. Course we don't have the numbers of classes to try to run. good luck

                What a bummer...

Williamsport is a great weekend, this bites! I don't know if we could get enough support to run a fri/sat. schedule, and a one day race weekend is a lot to ask of out of regioners, but I'm sure we'd put boats on the water. Either way it goes, count me in. I don't mean to be negative, just be a devil's advocate. It's a great site and I'd hate to lose it all together. Someone up stairs would be pretty upset if we didn't come back...

                  writen contracts?

Im not a bussiness man... But why do we agree and work with verbal agreements... sighned contracts would end some last minute problems...

someone correct me if im wrong about this...

all im saying is make people accountable to what they agree to...

I belive us, who represent us, should do things in a more of a business like maner...

And represent our sport in more of a proffesional manner..

                  any lawyers care to comment....

                    Friday/Saturday..................

With school out I would come on up for a Friday/ Saturday deal. Traveling 15 North will be much easier on a weekday and going back Saturday night or Sunday morning a easy trip back South!!!!! I assume the race date is still mid-July??

It is really crunch time for Williamsport. We have to make a decision by Thursday. My gut feeling is that we would be making a mistake not to go.

The drag boat group is an independant organization (local club) unaffilitated with APBA. We can not and will not run with them as a joint venture.

The sponsors have offered us an additional $1500 to race on Friday. We will have a small field, but a race. Saturday will be better. Perhaps the drags will put on a poor show and we will be the feature next year. Don't know.

This forum is a great opportunity to let the race committee know. So far, Greg Lyons and Valerie D'agostino are coming to split $1500. Any other takers?

                              I'll Be There

Racing on Friday and Saturday actually make it better for me to make it there. We have a local club race on Long Island on Sunday. So with racing Friday Saturday I'll be there both days
