(This message not for Dan's eyes) ...
APBA, USTS, AOF, NBRA or whoever ... we need to seriously consider recognizing individuals that make significant contributions to the sport of outboard racing in areas other than direct competition. Perhaps an annual "Spirit of the Sport" award to recognize an individual(s) that brings added value to outboard racing ... assist in the growth and development of the sport ... without fanfare, recognition or underlying ulterior motives. Case in point would be the extraordinary lengths that Mr. Lawrence et.al have gone to to keep this board up and running for the greater benefit of us all in spite of time consuming, costly efforts necessary to thwart attempts to destroy something of value to all of us. I'm sure that many of you may have other examples ... perhaps the work of American Hot Rod, Bass, Scott, Cameraboy (Mike Johnson), Bill Mackrell and others whose contributions of time and expertise are made out of their love of the sport. Can't believe that anyone really gets rich off of these enterprises.
Perhaps this type of recognition could take place at the APBA (or other National racing group) Annual Meeting ... would be a nice idea to have the award named after someone from our outboard racing past that made similar contributions to the sport.
Just a few thougths I had on the subject ... perhaps something similar already exists that I'm not aware of ...
