I recently purchased a 3 point hydroplane with a 25xs motor. I dont plan on racing, just outrunning a few jet-skis. I sent my lower unit out to have a water pump impeller installed. I am told that the lower unit has been sleeved to accept a 44xs propeller. He said the sleeve would have to be cut off to remove the needle Brgs. Not really knowing about props, or where to get the right one, I'm not sure what to do. My boat is 9'6" long and is made by hiteck industries. Can anybody help me out ? Thanks,Russ

prop size
My lower unit's size is 9/16", but the sleeve is over the shaft. I need a prop to fit the 9/16" shaft. The prop I have will only work with the sleeve (44xs), but I have no idea where to find a 25xs prop And I'm not sure what pitch, etc, any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Russ

Prop Size
I ran several different props on my 25XS. They were about 12 1/2 to 13 inch pitch and 7 1/4 inch in diameter. I have a prop or 2 left that were not my best but if you would like to try one, I'll send it to you. If you like it, I'll sell it to you. if not you can send it back. These props are stainless steel and ran $300 new. Let me know where you are located. My email is jstottsmk@aol.com and I am in Austin, TX.

Jack,
Would like to look at what you have left for wheels. Can you bring them to Ocoee? Always interested in 7x13 to 7 1/2x14 wheels.
My best 25MOD wheel is a Hopkins 7 1/4 X14 "mouse ear".
No luck contacting/getting reply from Hopkin's web site to order a copy/bigger wheel.
Russ,
you can get that bushing at a local bearing supply house or post/send me your e-mail and I will make arrangements to send you one. I think they are under $10. If they can't heat the old one with a butain/propain torch and get it off, they can cut it off carefully with a cut-off wheel in a die-grinder or a dremmel tool.
Last but not least I might be interested in trading you a like new/never raced (in US) 302 Yamato for your 25XS. It has the 9/16 prop shaft you need and I would include a good prop with it. You would have to rope start it. The Merc will be easier starting without help.
If you keep the Merc, remember to remove the propshaft cone and prop shaft bearing carrier after each weekend to lube the bearings in carrier. If these are allowed to run dry/rust they will lead to big bucks $$$$$ in a short time. You will need to buy a cone removal tool (usually under $100) to service the carrier/cone bearings. ......Or..... buy a "greeser tool" that can be found on e-bay or post a wanted ad here. Greese the bearings after each day!
Anyone have one avail for Russ?
Let me know if you ever want to part with motor/rig .
Good luck and steer clear of those jet ski's. Their wake will dump you
Have a chase boat ready if you dump it---Good idea anytime you run it.

Russ,
Thats the fun of testing!!!!!!!!!!
Actually sounds like previous owner was running it and you may want to ask him how it worked.
keep us posted. I'm sure you will have lots of wheels avail here on this site if needed.
I will take a sleeve I have to my bearing supply and see if they have a couple.
Post / send your address and I will ship em if successfull.

Cheap solution
If you just want to outrun jetskis on the lake, I would first try raising the motor up a bit with a 1/2 inch block and run it with that prop you have. This should keep the rpms up with a slightly larger prop. You would have to keep the water intake in mind. I don't own a 25XS so I am sure others would be able to offer better advise. I would, however, first try it the way it is, it might run fine.
