Another pic. The boat left Knoxville this week on its way to Baltimore where it will roll on/roll off a cargo ship. James expects the boat to be in Antwerp Belgium sometime around march 8.

Hey Eric what does something like this cost to ship a boat of this size to Europe? also what protection is there from stopping a huge box of freight from falling on the boat while in transit across the ocean. Will the boat stay on the trailer inside of a cargo box ?

Is the total cost of shipping added to the final bill ? this cant be a cheap deal, I am just wondering how the whole thing works.

      Thanks

        Dan,
The best way is for a few people to use a container. The cost for a 20ft.X8ft.X8ft. container is around $2000.00. and depending on which country you ship to a VAT tax could be added. At least four PRO boats can fit in one container. I took the "roll on - roll off" option which is a little cheaper. My option uses a special ship made to move cars/motorcycles/RV. It is stored inside and insured for damage. I would advise shopping around before making a choice.

          Dan and others,

The cost to ship is a price James has decided to pay himself. James would know more.

There are two ways that I can think of to do it. First step is to contact a shipping company that goes import/export. The container is the best, safest way, but at a price. If there were two or more boats going, the cost could be devided amongst everyone. This boat went the roll on/roll off method. In this case the trailer will be towed on to the ship, probably put below decks with many other wheeled parcels. When James gets the boat he will sell the trailer, or send it to the scrapper. People ship cars this way all the time. I think "Herr" Ralph sent a car with a 125 boat on top a few years back, two birds-one stone. There is risk with any shipping endeavor.

Hopefully James will chime in and set the record strait. Any one wanting to do this should contact James for current info. Other than 125, APBA doesnt have any classes that are really UIM legal due to boat safety rules. It would be a great way for a large way of american. to go to europe to race.
