Just wondering... browsing online, I cant find any racing sports that have a 2 heat final. Anyone know of any?

Wondered if maybe some other sport has manual timing software that we could utilize or adapt.

Or is anyone using anything other than the old APBA MS-Excel program?

    Can't Think of Any

    Andrew,

I can't think of any. Maybe it makes us unique. What other sports do is the "A" Main kind of thing. Meaning you qualify and your times put you in the feature event "The A Main" or you get in the B Main, Or C Main, etc depending on how many entries there are. You can advance through the mains to reach the big show if you win, or do well, etc depending on how many spots are open. Still gives a way for those folks to make the big show. I always thought an adapted version of this would work well in boat racing. Gives those who don't qualify in the elim a chance to race more than one heat at a weekend event. Especially with the travel involved.

Why not use the 3 heat format?

Alpine skiing. The technical events, slalom and giant slalom, get 2 runs for a combined total time.

Dave, That would make our sports scoring life so much easier... but the way people are about change like in our sport that would cause a war, haha.

Not sure what you mean... if H1, H2, LCQ, Final. We do that now. Can't find software that will score that format other than Mia's program.

Thanks for this. But skiing is pretty automated for timing... I'll look if there are any options there though.

I was hoping there was a club somewhere using software newer than the Mia MS Excel program.

It is in the APBA rule book. A race maybe up to 3 heats.

This sounds even more complex than 2 heats? Is there software for 3 heat racing we could use? If so, maybe we could do that instead.

Not complex at all. Just run 3 heats rather than 2.
On eliminations run 2 heats and a 1 heat final. All boats get at least 2 heats of racing. APBA Pros have been doing it for years.

Do APBA Pros have scoring software? Or do it on paper?
