  • A Class Parity: 3 engines

Just wondering if anyone has heard if there is an established plan on this?
What is the running speed of the Merc? 55? OMC? 58? SW? 59?
Are they looking to speed up the Merc or slow OMC and SW down to meet the Merc?

A Class Parity committee was appointed to achieve parity between parity among all 3 A engines.

    I am completely against this.

First of all, in my opinion the Mercury engine should not even be IN the parity discussion. The Merc is already the dominant motor in 2 APBA classes, that is enough in my opinion. When you consider that we are, OR AT LEAST SHOULD BE encouraging a new motor maker for this class, making it a 3 way is just not practical, trying to achieve parity with 2 motors is **** near impossible. If I were king there would be no Mercury in the A class, and the natural progression/replacement of the OMC's should be allowed to continue IMO.

Yep, when a NEW MOTOR is introduced it should be a given it is the MOTOR OF CHOICE.

It is like talking out of both sides of your mouth trying to keep the old obsolete engine DOMINANT in the class in question and yet approving a NEW ENGINE. Keeping the class speed in check should be the concern!! ASH (56-58mph) BSH (64-65ish) on the race course in competition.

And let's not kid ourselves, these Parity Committee advocates do not want Parity, they want the Sidewinder running in the middle of the pack in both A Class and B Class!!

Competition Committees Is a Needed Aspect For Stock Outboard To Survive!!!

The creation of the SORC Competition Committees is a wonderful and needed aspect at this time. This will set the stage to move forward into the future.

The A class adjustments to 1" transom height for the OMC and Merc will allow the owners of these rigs a chance to compete again with out sacrificing the new found performance of the Sidewinder 15S. Should be a win/win for everyone! Hopefully the other 3 Class Committees can also make some adjustments which are fair to all in the near future.

I for one, am excited about returning to racing in ASR in Stock Outboard. I was planning to return this year and switch to 200ccmr in Modified Outboard exclusively. APBA needs both of these classes to survive and grow in the future as well as their hydro counterparts.

I am sure there are many others out there who also are thinking the same thing!!!

Jeff...........looks like in the 11th hour the SORC re-named the committee to 'Competition in lieu of Parity' which seems a great idea. I understand their goal is/was to name a Motor Of Choice in each class where multiple engines are legal.

Kyle Bahl stated the Sidewinder is the 'Motor Of Choice' in A Class and B Class moving forward. Not sure what that means given the new changes made to the OMC and Merc engines in A Class??? But keeping the 'old' engines 'relevant' in a class and yet fostering the NEW AVAILABLE engine seems to be on the right track.

Guess time will tell. Hope to see ya around this season....
