I saw an R19 boat also. Didn't realize Pat made the trip

It sure looked like a steamer, and looked like it was running the course as well. It didn't look fast enough though. The current steam record was set there by John Mott a few years ago at 17 mph.

Here are a couple pics of the record holder...Looks like the boat's OK, but could do with a lighter engine/boiler package. I'll check with one of our UK SOA members to see that this year's steamer's about.

OK...Brian's explained the steamer. It's "Gondola", a restored Victorian era steam yacht that makes regular cruise tours of Coniston from March through November.

It appears they used to suspend operations during speedweek, but wakes are minimal so RYA's cooperating with the operators.
