Color coded strobes in the corner boats is an excellent idea!

And, you're right on...the strobes find your eye insteady of you having to hunt for the flags!

    A hearty amen!!!

I'm thinking that a dash mounted light system need not even have an integrated receiver. It could be a device that plugs into the headphone jack of a very inexpensive reciever like a FRS band radio. The device on the judge's stand sending the signal need only be a tone generator with a speaker .... the referee flips in the judge's stand strobe and holds the FRS to the speaker and keys the microphone. The tone goes to the FRS on the boats and each different tone lights a different light on the dash mounted tone interpeter module.

FRS's are dirt cheap even with multi channel capabilty that would exclude likely interference. A little board to interpet the tones and light LED's wouldn't cost much at all.

If the tones are standardized, the interpeters could even be made from a plan or kit.

I would hope that onboard LED's would only be used WITH judge's stand/turnboat strobes.

I agree on the use WITH the Strobes. Everything comes on from a centralized location from the Judges/Referee stand.

It would just be one more visible reminder in the cockpit that may get the drivers attention a fraction of a second earlier than the strobes and flags. I think with it being a small stadardized, incorporated device it would be easy to mount for any type of boat...even portable between several rides.
