Aug. 29-31, 1953 the Stock Outboard Nationals were contested in Syracuse (Liverpool), NY on Lake Onondaga. The monster lake provided good conditions the first two days, a miss on Sunday and the finals Monday. None of the 1952 winners repeated, though many were in the mix. The great Gerald Waldman won his only Stock title with a win over Ohio's John Hopper and defending champ Bob Switzer of Illinoisin DU. JU had its first seriously contested national with Jeryy Opperude of Wisconsin beating Paul Lyons of Concord, CT.
Dick O'dea scored back to back firsts to beat Jim Miner of Syracuse, Ind. and defending BU champ Ron Zuback of new Jersey. The field pushed the clock in the first heat of BU. Jerry Moshier of Phoenix, NY won the heat the title over Dayton, OH's Jon Culver and Massachusets' Bob Robbins. North Bergen, NJ's Tonio Stroscio scored a first and a second in CU besting Oakland, Cal.'s Ted Davey and Schenectady, NY's Paul Merrick.

Tony Lamontia of University Heights, Ohio captured the BSH crown over Jon Culver and Selina Ohio's Larry Kruger. After scoring two seconds {in BU and BSH} Jon Culver won DSH over Greenville, SC's Norman Propes and Brockport, NY's Pete Mosher.
