  • 2013 Newburg race

What a fun weekend of racing! Weather looked pretty iffy Friday....Come Saturday morning it was actually pretty nice. Somewhere around 80-85 entries a day....with full fields in CSH (12 boats?) Novice c, and 20ssh. We had one of the best Saturday night potlucks ever...so much good food! And...the bonfire was pretty good fun also. The race committee..headed by Mike Johnson, did a great job of putting the race on as usual. I did not race Sunday...headed home around 1230 pm.....a few miles north of Portland signs started apprearing on the side of the freeway stating all watercraft had to stop at next weigh station for inspection fro zebra mussels and stuff....which I did. After getting a clean bill of health, I was asked to pull forward and have my race trailer inspected. They went over the thing from top to bottom...lights, tires, safety chains etc...I had to go down the road (without trailer) and get new safety chain....mine was getting pretty rusty. If it had been the middle of the night with no stores open they would have impounded trailer....not a pleasent thought. Dave

Oh ya....I ran my new Tohatsu D stock motor....ran out of gas end of second heat...(minor problem) had a GREAT view from the start finish line from the back of a kicker boat of Kyle Lewis and Kyle Bahl battling it out in CSH....what a cool race! Dave

        What a fun weekend

First of all great job by the entire race committee, if I start naming names I will forget someone, EVERYONE did a great job. Thanks to the Newberg Boat Club for their part in putting on the race, what a fantastic bunch of volunteers. Thanks to Oregon Race Rescue, who somehow managed to get through a whole day of racing Sunday with pulling anyone out of the river. Thanks to the Newberg Boy Scouts for manning the ramp, manning the trash boats and all the other functions they do. As you can see by this list, it takes a small army to put on a great show like that, I hope all the racers remembered to thank the folks that enable their racing habit.

Congrats to Ken McMurphy and Glen Wesanko for their wins in the first running of spec prop Novice C, really couldn't happen to a couple nicer guys. My Novice C driver took one look at that river and said "no way", so an MGR thumbs up to all that braved the river this weekend.
