APBA stands for the AMERICAN Power Boat Association the last time i checked.

They don't call him CAPTAIN AMERICA for nothing!
Then Captain America should know the Metric system was approved for lawful use in the United States in 1866. The ONLY measurement system approved by congressional act. In 1975 the Metric system was again revisited by our congress, but they chickened out on setting a drop dead date so Luddites may continue to use the antiquated Imperial measurement system.

At the risk of sounding uninformed, I have to ask.

      What is a "Luddite"?

I had to look it up

        From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
        Jump to: navigation, search
The Leader of the Luddites, engraving of 1812

The Luddites (pron.: /ˈlʌd.aɪts/) were 19th-century English textile artisans who protested against the newly-developed, labour-saving machinery from 1811 to 1817. The stocking frames, spinning frames and power looms introduced during the Industrial Revolution made it possible to replace the artisans with less-skilled, low-wage labourers, leaving them without work.
        Don't laugh.....it's borrowed!!

          Definition of a Luddite

A Luddite is a person opposed to industrialization, automation, computerization and/or new technologies that enhance productivity.

The name was originally given to an organized movement of discontented textile workers in late 18th/early 19th century England.

Where did the name "Luddite" come from?

History has it that in the late 1700's, Ned Ludd, a young textile worker, wantonly destroyed the new, more efficient looms he believed threatened his livelihood. His actions sparked the movement that became a major civil uprising...eventually requiring military intervention.

          And now you know.

            Yes indeed . ..

And despite my affection for the Metric system I probably qualify as a Luddite. My mobile phone is "dumb", my computer has an actual keyboard, I rarely watch that mind-numbing device known as television, and I prefer reading books with pages. I like building small boats out of wood, although I do use that newfangled epoxy stuff. The family digital camera is so old the camera on your mobile phone has higher resolution, and I actually prefer taking pictures with film cameras, and I have several ranging from small (Minox B - spy camera) to a 4X5 Speed Graphic. I also have two enlargers and all the processing equipment for doing film and prints.

Lots of cool info..........but i am not against the metric system. I just think that when in Europe use the metric system and when in the USA the use of the Imperial System is in order.

              See you in Hinton!!

              Matt.........aka Luddite????

I must be a "Luddite" too, just never knew it before now. That must be why my cell phone still flips open and slips easily into my pocket instead of having to be carried around all the time and taking up the use of one my hands.

                  Clarification Please…

I know my question hasn’t been talked about on this post since page one, but I wanted to get clarification on the rounding of the pickle fork. I don’t want to get to a race only to be told I need hack up my pickle fork tips. If I need to do it I want to do it right. I have attached two pictures with the “born on dates” of each boat (yes my boats have serial numbers). One is an FEH (850ccMH) and the other is a D-Mod (750ccMH). Thanks in advance for everyone’s input.

                    Looks Good

I think as far as born on dates go, you are good to go. All I do is take a stamp and stamp a date in there. I don't believe there is a spec as to how big the digits have to be. Of course, if you come to Trout Creek (again?) you won't have to worry about that date being there or legible.

As for your round pickle tips, I don't see a pic of yours, and I honestly can't say that I completely understand the rule in the APBA specs.

                      the rule is ???

how bout some mod apba commishioners or better yet how bout our mod category leader writing up a clear opinion as to how the rule that is written[for sponson pickles and the date thing] is goin to be enforced for this 2013 season. SO WE ALL NO before we get to the first race. this would be cool. I believe this would put this controversy to rest. well...how bout it??

The 2013 Pickle rule is on line at the APBA website under 2013 Rules STOCK-MOD.

It has not changed for 2013. Next year 2014 is what will be interesting.

Pick up the phone and call APBA staff if you have trouble finding it. They are there 9-5 EST to serve us. 586-773-9700.

                          ???

thank you matt. my point with my earlier post was to get clarification from those that would be enforcing the rule. I no where the rule is however there is/was apparently some confusion and the simple written words from our leaders would end the interpretation issue at the race site. that's all folks, the end.

As I read the rule, the pickles don't have to be changed for stock racing until the 2014 season. Pro and Mod have been changed for a while now . Is this right?
Also I have a Bezoats C stock boat, can anyone tell me where the born on date can be found?? I can't seem to find one . Thanks.

Luddites are charter members of the Flat-Earth Society along with Glen Beck, Rushbo, Mishell Bachmand, Sarah "I kin see the russkies" Palen, and Lindsey Lowhand. All good company for the lemmings headed over the falls in a barrel.
