A few region 10 drivers went to Lake Mayfield resort this weekend for an informal test session....SOA used to hold a race on the same body of water, Ike Kinswa state park, but the park ranger was not to thrilled with us being there and so much for that. On to the good stuff....the owners of the resort bent over backwards to help us today....and they asked us at least 4 times to hold an outboard race out of their facility. After testing their today I would say it would be a great idea...so did everybody else present. The launch ramp is very similar to Castle Rock, cept it is not as steep, and there is almost unlimited pit space in the resort. You would have to idle your boats about 400 feet out of the marina onto the lake, but after that no problem at all. We could use a pontoon boat for the barge, and spectators actually have pretty good viewing from the little island in front of the resort. The owners also want to put a bouy line out in front of the shore for spectator boats to tie to. It would be an absoulute BLAST to run a race out of this place....there is a full bar on site, as well as quite a few new cabins and a full motel right on site. They have a website you can look at to check the place out. www.lakemayfield.com. They are booked up weekends from early summer to labor day, but I bet we can figure something out. Oh ya..the water was fantastic....SOA or CORA could run any size course we wanted...just wanted fellow region ten racers to know that we have not been forgotten in the area....and we are sure welcome back.
