• Sidewinder ASH Test Data at 1 3/4"

We spent 3 days testing in Florida last week. Here are the testing facts.

Dropping the ASH Sidewinder from 1 3/8" to 1 3/4" did the following:

    - None of the props that worked at 1 3/8" will work at all at 1 3/4". They are now all way too big and need to be junked or cut way down.
    - Speeds dropped between 2-3mph from the 1 3/8" height once you found an appropriately sized propeller that would turn adequate RPMs.

That's what we found after 36 hrs of testing (yes, they were 12 hour days).

Thats what I figured would happen Richard after running mine all last year and will try mine this weekend but really dont think it will mater what the results will be this is where they want to motor to run middle or the back of the pack. Its a no no to compete with the good and very good OMC's

Perhaps you should share your information with the APBA/SORC Parity Committee.............

I am sure they will consider all DATA and make the appropriate decisions.......

Looked like you were having fun at the Louisville- Michigan Championship game on Facebook. As long as the halftime show was, i imagine you had time to test you new Sidewinders during the festivities!!

For whats its worth I tested the A Sidewinder Friday at Tabor City and after making a good run with my best prop at 1-3/8 we dropped it to 1-3/4 and lost two miles an hour and went through a turn like a slug. After putting on the smallest prop I have the rpm's came back and was three mile an hour slower. I raced at 1-3/8 at Tabor and the results will show I had a 2nd on Sat and a first on Sun and the only heat I won was the 2nd heat on Sun as I was the only leagle boat

            Data

Here are two sets of data from at least one reliable source. Both in different climates under different weather conditions. They both conclude to the same thing. An investment into new props, and another significant investment is required to test and tweak. I would say the buyers of a sidewnder moving forward will have the advantage over current owners, as they can invest into the right props, well at least for a year or so...

I am at a loss as to how this is progress.

Same situation when the lowered CSH heights from 1/2" to 3/4". Had to have all props reworked or just don't use them any longer

Sean the whole class was lowered not just one brand of motor and whos to say it will stay there and not changed again next week, where does the spending end and after spending another 1000.00 on props over the winter that are dust collectors now I AM DONE SPENDING they can just sit in the shop for now.

I just went back and read Jeff Brewsters post. I thought it meant that the Sidewinder was lowered, the Mercury was lightened and the OMC was untouched.

                    Have I missed something?

                      oops

actually George the email I got shows that the sidewinder 15s motor was lowered to 1 3/4 not the whole class. and the merk is allowed to run both ASR and ASH with 15lb lower weight then the omc or sidewinder

This evening the A class parity committee held a phone conference for changes that will be effective 30 days from today's date.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

                      - The committee voted in favor of lowering the Sidewinder 15S engine to 1-3/4" for the ASH class.

                      - The committee voted in favor of lowering the overall weight by 15 lbs for the ASR & ASH entries using the Mercury 15 engine.

I think George was refering to CSH where all motors dropped to 3/4" rather than just 1 0of 3 motors.
