  • Dave Anderson in 1985

A little known fact... Dave Anderson in 1985 drove more than a Stock Outboards... Can you believe this?
I found this picture on a vintage hydroplane website. I couldn't believe it, there was my good friend Dave behind an Unlimited Hydroplane!

      Lmao

I was driving my parents 17 foot Glasply....I worked for Seafair from 1976 to 1992 I think...most of the years as Tender 4...pushing the boats back into the finger piers on the north side of the Stan Sayers pits. You gotta dig the mid 80s hair styles....oh ya, I was wearing skin tight jeans....there were a lot of hot little "pit lizards" running around the unlimited camps in those days.

        1981 Seafair

I remember working the north side of the pits in 81....it was over 100 degrees, and Chip Hanauer was driving the Squire Shop at the time. He came into the pits very slow....sorta slumped over the wheel...we pushed him in, and he passed out on the finger pier from the heat. Some of the old time drivers were very cool to us....Chip was pretty nice...but a few of them were major "dicks" Lol. The dude sitting on the bow of my boat was my college roomate...the other 2 guys in boat I do not recognize.

                  Seafair

It was actually pretty fun to be in the pits back in the day....my assigned parking spot for my parents boat was right behind the Budweiser pits some years....and at the time they ran the Griffon engine. They would trailer fire that thing, and lemme tell you, you could feel it all the way to your bones...kinda hard to describe. I met Bernie Little a few times...he was actually a pretty nice guy...as was Dean Chenowith and Jim Kropfeld. Bill Muncey was a total jackass to everybody....but he sure was a good driver. Steve Reynolds gave us a few beers one year out of the back of the hauler...he was pretty nice. I finaly got fed up with the whole thing in 91 or 92 when the security guys (in the black cowboy hats) started hasseling me before the final heat....I was behind the Bud and had to use the porta potty...parked the boat on the finger pier and run up to the porta potty..ran back to the pier and for whatever reason the security guy would not let me out on the pier....I had my full access pass etc...and the Bud was on the sling, over my boat...waiting for me to move out of the way. Lol...I just stood there and said...ok...YOU go move my boat. He stood his ground, and my friends had to move my boat out of the way...not a huge deal, but I said I had enough, and turned in my banner and never came back. But it was a lot of fun back in the day. Hey...I have not started to sag yet...lol...I actually weigh less now then I did when I was just out of college and involved in sports etc.
