  • 3/4 Mile Record Course

Is there an APBA club that plans to put on a record 3/4 mile course that includes the pro category, specifically OSY, this year?

    Thanks, John.

I'm thinking you MIGHT be able to get one in at Eatonville if Penway and Vitalire showed a little sponsorship love to Tony P......

        Pat might have a point

As a race director record races are kind of a PITA, but I am willing to listen. You'd have to convince my referee too

Call Ed, he will help you out. The Great American Boat Race in Dayton this August may be what your looking for.

After Whitney Point you can just stay a extra week or so here on the East Coast and wander on over to Dayton with all your East Coast friends!!

          Just a thought

Matt, after reading the 2013 Jan. issue of Propeller region reports region 6 article I'm not sure if this race will be run, I was not at the race nor the national meeting so I do not know the outcome of any discussions about this race but from what I read it seems there were some issues that need to be dealt with.

Just myself, but I'm supporting Pat's position. JN

                  Eatonville

I think it would be cool to have the 3/4 mile at Eatonville this year. We need to chat with Rick Sanstrom and see what he thinks. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm not a factor other than hanging over the side of a kicker with the Canon, but if this does come off I think the course should be a shortened version of the "rotated" mile we ran a few times.

The standard 3/4 we've used in the past was kind of a rebound generator, but pushing T-1 further offshore to fit the mile in eliminated most of the lumpiness.

                      3/4 mile record course

Unlike any other circle record course in APBA....the 3/4 mile has a standard survey. Every course is the same. Dave.

Yes...I'm aware of that, but rotating the orientation of the course doesn't change the layout standard. All that matters is that measurements match the pilot layout. If you recall, a few years ago we'd planned to run a 3/4 mile course at Lawrence that was to be laid out 90º to the 1-1/4 big-course.

The 3/4 course we always used at Eatonville was a shorter version of our usual "eyeball" course that fed back an awful lot of rebound water from the near shore, but to fit a mile course into the lake we had to rotate it slightly. The rotation changed rebound angles to scrub down energy, and resulted in a smoother and (I think) faster course.

                          3/4 mile record course

I see what you are saying now. If memory serves me correct we placed the barge on the opposite side of the lake from where it is now.....I don't remember how well that worked. Maybe Russ Dodge or Bill Diamond could look at the survey and see what could be done.

                              Records

Record racing is good in very limited amounts. The 3/4 mile is a terrible course and a waste of a great race site like Eatonville. Let the record setters travel for extra record attempts (like Guedo was inquiring about). Love the triangle at Eatonville, will probably not go if it's a record course.
