Project boat is done and new equipment installed in old reliable.. Everything is loaded for first race but the engine shelves are bare.. The work is never done

Before someone asks both boats are 12 feet long and can run as D hydro or E mod hydro.. Yes the one with the Pink sponson tips looks way longer but it is not.

Getting back to the engine.. What do folks use to seal in the filler block and the rest of the exhaust system??

Mine I use high temp silicone seal'r.....check filler block clearance to side cover plate with a couple dabs of silicone allowe'd ta dry or clay coat'd with veg oil, ....I add a extra side plate gasket if flush or less than .015 to alowe for heat exspansion so fill'r does not pinch cyl's......Especially in my 20H commodes and 4-cyl Mercs....I understand when the commodes first came out, they had the copper O-rings to seal the side cover at near flush clearance and "They" recommend'd less than .200 advance to prevent pinch'n pistons?....I run near .380-.400 advance to git my 20H's to turn-up......The 30+44 Merc's we run at .380+ with stock point type mags (real Be-otch to pull rope and really STINGS yer fing'ees if not use'd ta pull'n rope on one ) ....check with others if you use electronic modern mags like Roskowski's....When I went from points to CDI in my good 25MOD OMC I had to go from .350 to .200 advance to stop melt'n deflectors on pistons.......Ya git alot'a bust'n in the pits with a head off a 22CI OMC, and file'n a piston to smoooth up a deflector between sets .....also makes for a nasty spark plug gap deposit

Also have a few 22 OMC Mod blocks that the fill'r was "Bed'd" with marine "Devcon" and almost impossible to git fill'r out if need'd for another block
......All that was avail "Back in the day", before high temp silicone.

after many years of doing it and haveing probs.. i use rite stuff,,, sorta a resine silicon,,, from auto stores... it the best and doesnt fail...

That is so true.. I also last year helped out Cliff by selling him a good 80 motor cheap so he could develope a mod exhaust system for it also.

Just waiting for the ignition system now..Hopefully if I did it right that will give me two engines and maybe three when I get old reliable back from it pin repair.. This motor has been a three year process from start to finish
