depends on your prep work..............if you use a sealer prior to the topcoat, then 2qts "might" just be enough.....and also depends on if the color is solid or metallic.....and if you are using an HVLP paint gun (which I would assume)........

single stage or 2 stage (basecoat/clearcoat)?

well then you probably have enough if the paint is mixed 1:1.......

        primer
        sealer
        base coat
        clearcoat.........DONE!!

I buy gallons of my red paint......LOL!!!

nope...better to have more than enough......as you would be **** out of luck when you run out of paint, mid way through the paint job ..........then you are really screwed..........paint store closed, then have to wait till they reopen and respray the entire basecoat.......

House of Color..............are you also going to be spraying a silver base before the metallic?

best to just get 4qts and be safe.....its only money....

2 Quarts will get you there with like a color basecaot and provided you don't mess up one of the two to three evenly spread coats you will need to build coverage with dark high % metallic's .

Do your self a favor get I gallon

2 quarts is probably the bare minimum, keep in mind metallics are more translucent than solid color. Your base or prime will need to be even, one color. More will assure a good job.

the key factor is using the right color sealer use the wrong color sealer you will be putting severals coats of color for coverage just my opinion since i paint cars for a living withe the blues and purples a black sealer or a tintable sealer recommended by your paint store the 2 qts should be plenty feel free to call me if you have any questions casey 714-907-3265 i just painted two hydros last week and i will be painting two more this month so if you have any questions call me

have you use any of the water based paints on boats yet? Trying to decide if I should switch over from solvent based paints..

                              waterbase

i spray it hear in california it dries by air and heat heat alone takes forever the shops with money put fans in the ceiling or they have air blow out of each corner of the booth it will just take longer to paint when doing more than one color any defects in paint must be dry sanded becareful not to sand to early no easy to feather out when sanding to early actually sands better with a da using 800 ot 1000 grit paper
