Where is a good place to get shear pins in a large quanity. Like 200 at a time. Can you use 3/16 ss rod cut to size? I have quite a bit of that on hand. Just wondering what most of you run. Thanks

We use pre-hardened clevis pins from Aircraft spruce www.aircraftspruce.com, they come in different lengths. Part number is AN393-(then whatever length you want)."Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

Subject covered at length. I've been getting mine from McMaster Carr, pretty cheap. They have them in different lengths, pick what works for your motor.

Shear pin thoughts
Regardless of what shear pin material or type you use, keep this in mind:
It can only take a certain amount of shearing stress before it breaks. If you crank the hell out of your prop nut to the point of deforming the pin, you have just used up a percentage of its shear resistance. I have had this discussion with guys and they never seem to make sense of it. Think about it before you try to cut the pin into thirds with your prop nut.
Because of the effects listed above I only use the aircraft clevis pins, torque the prop nut to just snug and then put a safety wire through the hole that just protrudes from the hub. ( you need a few lengths now for various prop hubs). I have lost far fewer pins this way. On the 750mr I was still having some issues now and then so went to 1/4" and have never sheared one and like others have used the same pin for seasons. I still use the AN aircraft clevis pins with the safety wire.
