  • Mountain Home Ar.

OBRA will sponsor a race at Pigeon Creek, Ar on july 19 testing, race 20-21. This is the same location that we had five national championships. Beautiful mountains on the south side, great vacation spot. Trout fishing in the river below the dam. My second favorite place to race behind Pineville.

Awesome!!! I started boat racing the year of, or the year after the APBA nationals were held there (1989-1990?). I never got to, so, that is one place I always wanted to race at. Wish we could skip winter and go straight to May!!!! Bryan

          89 Mountain Home races

I have many stories about Mountain home, this one was about Ed Hern. He was running really good in the A Mod Hydro that year. My hot rod was just so so. In the first heat my motor started missing really bad. It came time to go to the starting line, I squized the throttle, but nothing happen. All the boats jump the gun, but me, well at least I tried to jump. Winning the heat by running dead last. Now, I was really sweating it because I didn't know if my motor would run the second heat...Well, it did, running on a very bad miss.
I won my fourth National Championship by bring up the rear in two heats. Ed will not let me forget it, so I walk up to recieve my throphy, back wards.

We wanted to get more drivers involved at the Judges stand. Most big races, a few volunteers would judge the Nationals. there had been some questionable calls the year before and this was before we used video. So we made six drivers get on the judges stand and call the Gun Jumpers. Most of them had never been on the judges stand and they saw how difficult it was to pick out jumpers in a E mod hydro start, with the field going seventy to eighty miles per hour.

Google Maps follow hyw. 210 north of town, turn rt. on co rd. 175. The race course is right were the map shows the 175. Quarter of mile of sandy beach. The lake is down seven feet now.

Yes, that is a beautiful race site! Mark, are you going to race?

I went to the APBA Nationals there in 1991 to pick up a new hydro. The memory that sticks out the most for me from that race was the show that Witham and Vanover put on in C Mod Hydro. Vanover was running Bob Goller's C Merc with expansion chambers. I'd never seen a Merc with chambers run that well around the course.
                    ...

OMC FE/SE powerhead parts for sale. Kurcz ported block, Mod 50 pistons and cylinder head, exhaust, etc.

                        Nice Site

I have raced there a few times. My favorite story is the go cart track....
Went there one night with Kevin Ladd, Ben Sharp, Shawn Brill, and I think Billy Breaux. We were kids who had just gotten thir drivers permits and what not back then. Well Mike and James Robertson were there too and instigated this. I think Eric Vanover was there too. Well, Mike talked the poor high school kids that were working there to keep the track open after they closed for us, by offering them a ride ia a race boat. They closed at like 8 or 9. Well, we went out and made our own course with the tires, etc. We all piled into the carts and proceeded to go out and beat the snot out of these go carts. I don't rememeber 100% but I think we even managed to flip one or came real close to it. At any rate soon after we started the dang owner of the place showed up and talk about a heap of trouble !! I think we got out of there in a hurry leaving a big mess behind and a pissed owner screaming about boat racers never being welcome at that track again !! I am not real sure, but I am betting those two kids that agreed to this who worked there lost thier summer jobs. Never did see them show up at the boat race for their ride !!! Maybe the owner capped them or something !

Are we pitting in the same place, same course to race on ? I heard Condo's went in where we pitted and raced ?

I remember that national’s doc. Do you remember all those turkey’s they cook
Saturday after the races. Boy that was some good eating. That’s the race
Denny Montgomery got mad and loaded everything up and went back to Texas.
I think it was over his two boys getting DQ in B hydro. He put everything in storage and never raced again. To bad. A lot of whisky been under the bridge since those days.
