  • F-1 Racing in Austin, TX

Today F-1 racing returned to the US with it's race in Austin. It was televised on Speed Channel. The newly built facility is world class and attendance was great. Some 65,000 on Fri for practice, 80,000 on Sat for practice and qualifying, and over 100,000 on Sunday for the race. Totally clear skies and 70 degrees. Surely showcased Austin which did a great job of hosting. The city envisions it will bring 230 million bucks to the Austin community. Now all they need is a good boat race. Oh, bye the way, the winner was Lewis Hamilton of the Vodafone McLaren Team fron the UK who happened to be the guy that won the last F-1 in the US at Indy. Jack

Fantastic track and facility! Took the family and loved every bit of the racing and Austin. Will definitely be back next year!

Thought about going down there to watch, then a buddy that was going, told me the tickets were $1,000 each. I just wasn't THAT interested........ I would, however, like to have a portion of the budget that it takes to campaign a car. 1 year-1 car=200 million. (or that was what it was a while back) Bryan

              screamin!!!

Gotta love hearing 18,000 rpm runs down the straight, then hard breaking to a 90 degree turn. I sure miss them coming to Indy!

I believe this event is scheduled next year to be run at the newly built Motor Sport Park in Millville, NJ less than a mile where the Stock Outboard race is held.......i passed the track recently and it is a very cool road racing facility used motsly now for SCCA events.

I also watched the race on SPEED NETWORK................lots of big shots in attendance, wonder if all those 'stars' will come to Millville!

The race, at least this one, is tentatively scheduled to run on 17 Dec 2013. There is a 10 year deal with Austin. I do believe that NJ is making a run at holding a F-1 race. I think I heard earlier that there was to be one up your way this year but NJ or F-1 pulled out or something. Don't remember the specifics. Pass along a belated birthday wish to Val. Jack

thought I read somewhere that the NJ race is now on hold, due to lawsuits (probably from the Austin group, since they invested heavily).......

but still, it is great to have F1 back in the USA and the Austin facility looked awesome......might have to plan a trip to attend next year...
