  • yamato 302 plugs

my old 302 uses spark plugs that look like they came out of a model T. I understand there is a modification that can be made to the head which will allow the use of more modern plugs. Is it a matter of filling the plug hole and retapping, or are inserts needed. Either way, which plug works best after the modification.

My guess is that you have an 18mm head and want to go to 14mm. You have two options. Change out your current head for a 14mm head or get yourself a set of 14mm adapters that will thread into your existing head. Like Tom said do a search on adapters, there's lots of good info here you just have to look for it.

          plugs

Here is a thread with some plug info. Note my post in thread below on Page 3 to Ric Montoya's site where he discusses inserts and plugs. Also look at the 302 parts list on Ric's site under powerhead section where he lists plugs to use in the 302

            14mm

Go with the 14mm head. Its a lot easier and less expensive to get spark plugs.

PM me if you need one.

If you don't spring for a new 14mm head, you can always make do with adapters. They are easily obtained at your local Harley Davidson dealer as old Harleys had tractor plugs.
