        Dave,

I have been following records week at Coniston for years now. HRTV is not confusing its only confusing if you are not familiar with Coniston which most people are not.

The top speed is an average of straight line runs. http://www.conistonpowerboatrecords.co.uk/index.shtml

Sorry Dan, but it is to me. I can't figure out how to find any information there - just a picture. I click on a picture to see what the story behind it is and all I get is a bigger picture.

Congrats to JW! With a little more tailwind he could have beat Wart!

'fastest prop driven in the UK"
                  but not the British Empire
If they can crank it up to 185mph, they will surpass
the late Art Asbury's record set in 1957,
with Miss Supertest II , in Picton, ON.

Coniston, United Kingdom -- J.W. Myers and the Peters & May team arrived in the United Kingdom for the Coniston Power Boat Records Week with one goal in mind; setting the H1 Unlimited UIM World Record. On Monday, Myers was able to establish the record at 176.11 mph on the 1 kilometer course at Coniston Water. The new world record makes the Peters & May Hydroplane the fastest propeller driven boat ever in the United Kingdom.

"It was great setting a new record in the Peters & May Hydroplane today, our crew has worked hard all season and it feels good that we were rewarded with this record," said driver JW Myers. The Peters & May driver believes that the smooth conditions prevented the boat from going faster. "The water was smooth as glass which caused the boat to be stickier than we would have preferred . Hopefully, we will get a little breeze tomorrow that will provide us with a light chop."

The Peters & May team will try to increase their speed tomorrow weather permitting. Fellow Peters & May teammate and Unlimited Racing Group crew member Aaron Salmon is also in Coniston attempting to set the O350 class World Record. Salmon failed to finished his attempt due to mechanical difficulties. It is uncertain whether Salmon will be able to make another attempt tomorrow. How can it be a world record? The Bud went 220 + at the Oroville Kilos couple years ago.

                        Conditions

Water appeared to almost too flat. The hydros were not breaking loose. Of course, getting too loose would have been no good at those speeds! Congratulations to the record setters.

Yes and the 220mph was a kilo run so what does give??

I believe, that the Bud record was simply the propeller driven kilo. The U-11 Peters & May record is the H1 Unlimited kilo. Different rules. Don't hold me to this though.
