I recently received a copy of the new book by Bernie van Osdale of IN,
Vintage Outboard Motorboat Racing, Illustrated History, 1929-1959.
As the dates imply, it is focused mostly on the alky or PRO motors
of the pre-war/post war eras, prior to the emergence of 'stock'.
So, not much for the Merc fans, but tons on early Evinrude, Johnson,
and a little Konig. It is more of an pictorial book than a narrative,
with great b&w pictures, enhanced with digital technology.
Many of the pix are from the files of Charlie Strang, Marshal Eldridge Sr,
Ralph DeSilva, and Paul Wearly.
It is 127 pages. I got mine from Amazon for $25.
All of us who grew up with these motors, will appreciate
the work Bernie did preserving their history
