Might as well delete this rule then...

The driver is responsible for the condition of the equipment as raced. Errors on the part of the manufacturer, mechanic, inspector or previous owner is no excuse.

    • Just curious

Does anyone know when this is supposed to be decided?

The appeal has been upheld....Matt is no longer national champion. At least that is how I see it. Dave

I have kept my big trap shut for the most part on this whole deal....I sorta feel it is a "watershed moment" for APBA stock racing. The line has been drawn in the sand whether you consider it good or bad. From now on...racers will have to be much more diligent in making sure equipment is legal and safe. And, that being said....we need to have dedicated safety inspections at Whitney Point nationals next year. Make sure EVERY boat is inspected on site, regardless if it has a 2013 safety inspection from another APBA event. Who is to say whether after safety inspection was done at a previous race that there is now an issue with boat or safety equipment driver is wearing? I have been told by a few people that this is not a big deal..it is. I am going to propose at the national meeting that this be a mandatory rule at all Stock Outboard nationals. Dave

Upheld? Didn't Matt appeal the DQ? If "Up Held" it would mean that Matt was the National Champion.

            Thanks for posting.......but I don't understand.

The e mail I got stated that the money that Jean Makay Swartz put up for the appeal was being returned. Did I get the semantics wrong?

APBA sent an email to the SORC chairman the decision on this subject.

The appeal to the national commissioner because of the SORC decision to reinstate Matt D after his boat hull disqualification at Grass Lake has won. That means Tony Lombardo is the ASH national champion and Matt D is again disqualified.

Tony-Congrats buddy, I know this was not how you wanted to win, but you did a great job driving a fast boat.

Matt and George- You guys did an outstanding job with that rig this year. Can't wait to see it on the water in 2013.

This thread has become a mind of it's own and at this point I would ask the HR webmaster to discontinue any new posts as the issue is now over. Thanks.

                  • Maybe we should review pictures from the nationals. Anybody's helmet not within the safety rule should get pitched. Even though the nationals are over, and have been for months. Lets do it so we can be "fair to everyone."
Our sport is dying & you guys give a $$$$ about this?
Let's add more hoops to jump through...I'm sure that will help attract new blood....

                      • Fair Notice

In light of the recent ruling disqualifying the legitimate winner of the ASH national championship race, I am giving fair notice to everyone who has pisseed me off in the last year: I will be making an entry in every class at the nationals in 2013, and, if you win, I will be filing a protest against you for the most petty, non-speed advantage violation I can think of or find.

This is the "new way" of Stock Out boarding.

                          • Fair Notice, correction

I stand corrected: Apparently I can just do it from the beach; it is not necessary to actually compete in the race.

                              Wow that sounds pretty lame.

But as I see it, why have a rule if its not going to be enforced, weather it is a speed advantage or not. A rule is a rule right?

Everybody on the water should be abiding by the rule book. Speed advantage or not. If not, the take the rule out of the rule book.

                              • I Think It Was Waterfield, 1979, But Not Sure

Rich Job, CPA, a second generation boat race, and my accountant, started racing 20 SS Hydro. He had a Karelsen. I told him, I felt, the Furnal was a better boat, so he bought two. A 20 and a C Hydro.

He and his girl friend went to the Nationals. Everyone stood around and watched Rich becasue he didn't have his handle on his 20's gas tank. AFTER he won his qualifier, setting tome 20 SS TIME for the Nationals, he was DQ'd for not having a handle on his gas tank.

A rule was put into effect for "NON-Speed" items to get a warning. Oh, I forgot to mention, Rich Job quit boat racing over this, especially when he found that his competitors KNEW before the race he didn't have a handle....A chicken **** move by anyone's book.

Today, Marlee Hill, Region 12's new Stock Commissioner, read the rule book, we thought, cover to cover, but could not find mention of non speed advantage rule.

Is it still in the book.....???

We did find where boats are to be safety inspected before a race. How did Matt's boat get through qualifying heats? Shouldn't he be disqualified for his qualifying heats also? Which would allow for the 13th boat to qualify, and the race would have to be re-run....
