As an outsider with no stake in this it appears to be a no brainer..The original ruling should stand..People miss things so the fact that it may have raced earlier in the year with no problem means nothing,,At least the safety issue was finally caught and should be upheld for the sake of showing no favoritism and upholding the rulesMike - One of the Montana Boys

Lets fix the real issue
The rule book calls for all sponson tips to have a .5 inch radius. A radius is a measurement involving a diameter and or circumference.
During the deliberations concerning the sponson tips on the 32-E boat I noticed several hydros with flat or straight tips. Being that a radius involves diameters and circumferences, which are all parts of a circle, how are the straight tips classified as legal? I asked this question and was told “because it is”.
A straight line is not a part of a radius. If I ever tried to pass off a straight line as a radius in my profession as an Engineer I would probably be looking for a new job.
My point is simple. Technically the 32-E did not meet the safety specifications even though it had been inspected, and passed inspection for at least two seasons. Why then were the boats with straight tips not disqualified as well as the 32-E?
My son’s J/A hydro passed tech inspection for 3 years and won several races in the process. I was told early this season that my son’s sponsons were illegal but he could still run the boat. Howie Nichols approached me at a race and advised me that Joe couldn’t compete if the sponsons weren’t made to comply with the safety rules. I was very thankful that Howie took the time to have this discussion with me. Bill Giles has since brought Joe’s sponsons into compliance.
I do not believe for one second that George Stillwill would have kept entering his boat in races had he known it was not in compliance.
George Stillwill's boat and my son’s boat are not the only ones that have passed more than one inspection even though they technically weren’t legal.
I applaud guys like Howie Nichols and T.J. Johnston for making the hard calls that few will make.
Rather than appealing to have the decision reversed and the win taken away from Matt and George I would think more justice would be served and more racers would benefit if an appeal was made to the rules committee to give concise rules that can’t be misunderstood, and for the inspectors to make the hard calls.
Look at how many boats have passed inspections that in reality should not have. How can we make an example out of the 32-E when there have been other instances of this same thing happening in the past. Let’s make an example of our rules and how they are enforced; we owe it to our members and to our officials.
If you can’t beat the 32-E on the water please don’t try to do it with the rule book. Let’s fix the real issues and move on knowing that the 32-E won by excellent preparation and outstanding driving.

'That' would have been a sad story as well.
There's a concept. But also a topic for another thread...
