    Tuners

    Hey Brian,

I think that Darrell is referring to the 55H tower housing and the no tuner spec. as the early 500 blocks had a bolt on tuner. If you have a block that bolts on to the 44xs tuner then you need to run the tuner as it is part of the adapter plate and you cannot modify them as per existing rules.

I think that we should wait for the final rules to be submitted from sorc and then make validation from that point. I have suggested to Darrell and Mark that they get a copy of our D classic hydro rules which we prepared a year ago.

Which basically read Any 44 powerhead pre 1972 with no exhaust tuner on a 55H housing and either a 44xs or 55H gearboot. Utilizing existing cowls from that era and no updated transfer ports or exhaust splitter plates.

My only rule suggestion to this is that Wiseco pistons should not be allowed in as we know there had been some of those pistons created with the pin boss relocated, thus a cheater piston.

You can use current 44XS pistons and rod combination in the early 44 blocks with no problem and they cc almost exactly as the current 44 blocks. sierra also has a direct OEM replacement rings and pistons for the 44XS at a much cheaper cost. I am working with Sorc to try and get these approved as well.

    Regards,

      If I understand...

Okay, this is sweet if I am understanding right. I can now run a DSH on its stock tower with original foot, the 55h ? Can I use the 55H foot on a 44xs tower and block ? I know I can build up many stock 55h powerheads for pretty dam cheap, under 500 bucks I am betting including new pistons.

I like this proposal, why not make use of the millions of parts laying around in junkyards everywhere. Once this is a final rule I think you will find a bunch of folks ready to go.

      Kudos to everyone on this.

We re-vitalized the 55H class in Canada a few years back and call it the D-Classic class. We have close to full fields each weekend and lots of great racing. I would say 95% of the boats are new designs and really rocket around the course. It's great to see these guys duke it out each weekend, and of course the sound of the old D's is music to the ears............
