  • Jones Hydro 225 R

Looking for information anyone might have on this Jones Hydro.

We did make out the number 225r on the deck.

The boat is 10ft 6in long.

Any info on its history would be great.
    May consider selling.

Appears to be a sister to this boat, a C alky/Dmod Ted Jones cabover,
made in the late '50>'60s, Seattle WA.

I posted a comment on this several days ago, which must have vaporized.

Pretty sure those are Ron, not Ted, Jones boats (the molded fiberglass cowl) from the early '60s, for C/DSH. Bob Luke and Don Hanson were two who had them up here in Reg. 10. Also Dave Culley, but I think his racing number was different.

Ron may have been in the shop, but this catalog says it was Ted who owned it.

Interesting, and a great photo of the shop. There's some controversy as to how much actual boat-building was done by Ted Jones, and I personally don't know but there are a couple of guys I can ask about it, who might be able to say when the business started to get handed over to Ron. And Ron (Senior) might still be in town, might be willing to talk. I'll ask around. As early as 1959, as I understand it, Ron was well into all of it, and did the design of the last Miss Burien unlimited, which was delivered in 1960. Ed Karelsen did some of the boat-building for Ted Jones in Seattle(1958 Bardahl, 1963 Exide, maybe others), along with another guy whose name I forget, and Staudacher built many boats from Ted's designs. Somewhere in the early '60s, Ron moved to California and set up shop. The trouble is that by now people have got old, forgotten, maybe croaked, in addition to any disagreements about what they saw or thought they saw at the time. Eyewitnesses are frequently less-than-reliable.

          Thanks for posting that.

-this is the 4th page of that brochure.
Dating some of these pix, it must be post 1962?
-what year did the RX3 run?
Hard to get accurate info on the west coast scene here in the east.
One story I am told is those nice cowls were back door Boeing,
as they were doing some good fibre glass work for the B52 project
True, or did the Boeing glass man come over on Sat to the shop?
-and a poor pic of mine with its tail up...
-motor is only a 40", and we have not really tried to prop it.

This doesn't quite directly answer our questions, but very interesting anyway:
