Here is a link to the NPR story I heard on the radio this morning. Pretty awesome coverage for those who put a lot of hard work into the event. Well done!

Good luck with that. The town of DePue is boat racing and has been so for well over 20 years now approaching 30. This is a very rare case which cannot be compared to any other small rural town or large city.

With the global crisis and economic melt down still taking a huge toll on most major towns and cities around the US the last thing they can even think about is having a boat race. Many cities and rural areas around the country still have huge budget shortfalls coupled with high unemployment, crumbling infrastructures, decaying school systems and the list goes on and on.

Having a sanctioned powerboat event once maybe twice a year would not even begin to address some of the major hurdles most small towns and cities face today.

      Not a sermon just a thought :-)

I said towns not cities..Whole different ball game..Hard times make small towns more interested in anything that will bring in money..That is how we got our race site in Trout Creek and once in now they love it..

GRass Lake the home of MHRA

Grass Lake may become like that. The Village President told me the other day that he hopes MHRA feels like Grass Lake is their home!

I agree, we can have some impact on some of the smaller communities.

We raced at Havanna Il. For 4 years. They just loved it, tremendous crowds of spectators. Great support from the city & Chamber of Commerce. But its downfall was the Illinois river. It just flowed the wrong direction. With the the slightest wind from the southwest it just got to rough to race and that is direction of the prevailing winds in the summer. We finally had to face the fact that it was not going to work, and canceled the race.

              Lots Of Chances

There is a lot of money to be had from places that want boat races. It is proven every year. While it may not be what some consider needed, it is enough to pay a good amount of tow money so those that have to travel 500 miles plus can make back most of their gas money.

It is out there, you simply need a product to sell. A program. I think identity is important. it is definately not about location. We should all go where they support us. Have 5 very sponsored races that attract attention verses 50 all around the states that don't attract anything.
