Begier could of had 3 in a row, But believe he jumped one of his 2 heats in the finals Pa in 89. Then I think he stopped racing right after

        Billy Begier

I can confirm that Billy raced the Hot Rods up to 1991 for sure in Youngstown OH. It was my first time racing the 20ci Hot Rod at the Nationals and he snuck my inside in the rough turn 2 and by the time I noticed him and try to "tighten" the gap to the exit pin he was there and we came together pretty hard (sponson to sponson). Of course he blew by my and I think finished 2nd in that heat to Bill Giles. Last year for the 20ci. Great ride.

He still has that boat & motor stored in the basement of his home. He came back to race SST45 with moderate success, but a job change forced his eventual retirement.

            John,

Thanks for the correction on the 1956 champ.

After Bill blew his "finals" B Hot Rod testing at Lawrenceville in '89, he may not have had the juice for the big show.

That thing must have been turning 9000 rpm. What a sound.

Not to take anything away from Bob Howe in '89. He was really fast in those years. No back door win there.

They sure sounded great all going to the first turn at Wakefield. Agree with Mark, that was quite the ride.

What, did Billy Allen owe him money?

                        The Great Shanon Bowman

In 1974, after The Great Shanon Bowman, prior to forming Team M and still on the George Bezoats Racing Team, with his foot-long ponytail blowing straight back out of his helmet, won the 1974 Nationals at Dayton, Ohio -- where the largest number of B Stock Hydros was likely ever assembled -- two boys, then JU drivers, actually argued over who got to push their hero Shanon's boat back to the pits from inspection.

They argued and argued until it was decided that Billy Allen and Dave Dewald would TAKE TURNS pushing the Great Shanon Bowman's boat back to the pits. One boy got in the boat, while the other pushed. Then they traded places at the halfway point.

To this day, Shanon Bowman remains their hero.

The list I'm working off until the mid 90's was provided by Craig Bowman.

                              I trust the Zen Master.

Plus, I'm pretty sure I remember myself Begier winning BSH in 1987.

Matt, I do remember you driving BSH there and being very fast. I actually have that Propeller magazine at home from '87 Nationals. I'll check it out.
