The date for the Sparks race is getting closer, August 18 & 19. We have reserved 30 rooms at the Western Village Inn and Casino at the rate of $55 per night. The Inn is right on the lake and you could watch the race from your room if you were to be on the eastern side hotel. Reservations must be made by the 3rd of August to get this rate. Their phone number for reservations is 1-800-648-1170. This is a full casino with restaurant and a coffee shop and whatever else your little heart desires.
There is also an RV Park about 1/4 of a mile from the lake. By Sparks ordinance you will be unable to camp in the pits but must stay in an RV Park. This is universal throughout the Reno/Sparks area to prevent people from living in casino parking lots. The RV park is the Sparks Marina RV at 1200 E. Lincoln Way, phone number is 775-851-8888. We will have security overnight in the pits to protect your equipment.
Also we would like to get an idea of boat count and what classes we will need to schedule. I will be running ASR and CSR.
We all talk about how we need to hold high visibility races to promote our sport. This has to possibility to be one of those guys and gals. It is right next to Interstate 80, a hotel casino, an RV park, the largest sporting goods store in the US, large numbers of spectators and the future prospect for major sponsorship money. Reno/Sparks will throw money at events that bring tourists to the area and they like motor sports. Hot August Nights is the prior weekend and is probably the largest car show in the nation and is supported in a major way by local government and business. We need to put on a good event and show the city the potential for growth. This is a fantastic site to hold a boat race. This was once a large gravel pit that was flooded during the great flood of 1997. The City of Sparks saw the potential and made it into a fabulous marina and park. One of our long time boat racers and officials saw this site for the first time a few weeks ago and said something to the effect that if I had the chance to design a race site from the ground up I couldn't have done a better job.
We have already raised some tow money and working on more. The number of classes you enter will figure into how much we pay as well as how far you come.
With everything to do in the Reno/Sparks area, not even including boat racing, you are guaranteed to have a good time and will be well worth the trip.
