  • 2012 DePue Nationals Trivia

The research is almost complete and Sunday afternon the questions will start. Just a few things to remember before answering , I have expanded the questions to include the 1965 - 1974 along with the 1985 - 2011 Depue Nationals. Some may be year specific while some may include both time frames. There will be no hints and you must get all parts of the question correct to get credit . Hope you as much fun answering them as I have had putting them together.

And to add one more thing. To save on confusion I will not overlap questions this year. It got kind of confusing last year when there were 2 or 3 questions without an answer at different times. Each question will have a limit of 3 days before I will post the correct answer and start a new question.

    Question 1

OK here we go with the first question. We all know 1971 was a banner year for the Jerrys' , Jerry Waldman won 4 of the 5 hydro classes and Jerry Simison won 3 of the 5 runabout , and if you include thier C Service wins it was a great weekend , but for the sake of this question I wont include the Service classs. Can you name the three other drivers who won that year and what class it was that they won , you must guess all three to be correct ?

Nicely done Tim , that is correct. For extra credit can you guess who won the other two sections of C Service besides the two Jerrys ?

Manuel Carnakis in Runabout and Stan Leavendusky, Jr in Hydro. Stan's boat was an early Marchetti owned by Paul Hayes. A couple of years later I put a new bottom on it for them.

I have the information for this race, and others of that era, on cassette tape from when I was publishing Hydroplane Quarterly. I would babble into the microphone and then when I got back home - write the article.

                      Question 3

This one may be to easy but here it is. There are two APBA Kilo speed records that date back to the 1980's , who has them and in what class? Again you must get both to be right

The two I found were Pete Crowley in 1987 in 250r at 84.866mph and Bill Rucker in 1984 in 500r at 95.130mph. You may be right on Bill Van , I will have to look.
