  • The "Real" BSR champs

Not be confused with today's BSR: Also, need some help here. As I recall,
20ci BSR ran until the 1991 Nationals in Youngstown. So, who won in 1990 and 1991? Abd who won with the first 20H conversion?

    1959 bu

    Dana,
I believe Ron Zuback was the first to win with the conversion 20H.
1956, 1957 and 1958 were probably Hot Rod wins.

I think 1983 was the last 20H BSR win at the nationals.

        American Hot Rod

        Cooper,

So 1984 and on was the Dave Little American Hot Rod 20 cubic inch B motor?

What year was the switch when B Stock became 15 cubic inches?

        Thanks,

        Dean.....................................

Cooper Jess,,, Ed Hearn or Tom Moulder would know that date..
I'm thinking around '90 or '91. Just my 2 cents worth..
Also about the same time that the Yamato 80 became a legal B-mod motor.

1992 was the switch from 15ssR to BSR.

So who won BSR in 90 & 91?

I want to think that Craig Dewald came out of retirement to win at Wakefield in '90.

                  1989

Craig Dewald won his one and only Stock Outboard National Championship in 1989 in 15ssr at Lawrenceville, Pa.............Dave Dewald was second. Don't think BSR and 15ssr were combined at that point

                  I remember that year well!!

Brian Rhodes won BSR in 1990 with a Hot-Rod. For what it's worth, in 1991, I asked the SORC to change the B class from 20 to 15 Cu. In. in an effort to save Hot-Rod from total elimination in the Stock Outboard category.

We were considered expendable back in the day because class reductions were on everyone's mind. So by voluntarily eliminating the 20HR engine and the 15SS class, I was "given" the opportunity to continue producing engines. The 15HR was the more popular engine, still faster than the 20H, and easier to drive than the 20HR, so it was an easy sell to the SORC. Furthermore, the 15HR would live longer than the over-stressed 20 Hot-Rod, and could be easily converted to a 15.

Then in 1991, my health turned to crap and Tom Moulder bought Hot-Rod back as a parts company. The rest is history.

                      -CORRECTION-
I must correct my earlier post. I sent it out before thoroughly researching the facts. (You know that the mind is the second thing to go...I can't remember the first).

Here is the correct information directly from my collection of old Propeller Magazines. Brian Rhodes was the 1990 BMR National Champion, NOT BSR. There were no BSR champions crowned in 90' and 91' according to Propeller.

1992 was the first year for the 15 inch B' classes. Furthermore, it was at the 1989 Ft. Worth National Meeting that I proposed the restructuring of the 15SS and B' classes, NOT the 1991 National Meeting as stated earlier. Those changes then took effect in 1992.

                      Sorry for the mis-information.

                      Dave
