Some remarkable performances there, in what has always been
a popular and hard fought class.
In the period 1960 thru 1992, 14 of the 32 winners were from the Pontius or Stippich family.
    Close to domination of CSR.

In the period 1960 thru 1969, all but one year, 1966, were Pontius or Stippich.
A 20 year old from MA, Bill Giles, went out to OR and won.
I gotta hear more about that.
Maybe he brought some of that hot MA gas with him

      Very impressive

I saw that same pattern, really amazing considering the amount of folks running that class back in those days.

Another correction..... 1958 & 1975. It's Dick Rees, not Dick Reese. No 'e' on the end.

My first C Runabout Nationals was 1959, my last was 1977. I congratulated Bill Giles for his 1966 win at Prineville, Oregon. But the loss hurt then, and still does.

I won the 1966 Marathon Nationals and I was the kilo record holder in CU. My CU tested faster than my DU....at Prineville. I won DU in Prineville and I finished 9th or worse in CU.

MY CU was running 62 MPH at Prineville, my Cary propeller would run 57 MPH. I started on the outside figuring to blow everyone away by the first turn...Giles got there first and I went backwards from there.

My dad was th motor inspector: Giles's motor had old style rods, old style pistons and a Cary that was a 57 MPH prop, but he kicked ass on everyone. A very clean win and a gentleman Champion.

            Bill Giles deserved the win.

I could be wrong, but I believe 2000 started the Rich "Worm" Runne domination. Winning like 7 of 8 in a row in the 2000s.

6 in 7 years for Worm. That's unrivaled in any Stock class...ever. I witnessed all of them. Domination in every one. No backdoor wins.

Good luck to Kyle going for the 3-Peat this year. Tough to do.

To add to this CSR post...

The rivalry between the Froelichs and Pontius families was as good as it gets in racing. Late 80s-early 90s. They were bringing it at the Nationals. Too bad the Froelichs retired so early. Would have paid to see Dave Jr. square off with Worm.

It would be nice if we could do this for all classes.

2003 Copperopolis Worm was a victim of a bad first turn Chop call. He won the race but was DQ'D.

Not really. Look at Tim Ross's record in the Marathon National's in CSR. That's truly unrivaled. Talk about domination. His wins in a row covered about 900 miles, not 40 or 50 total. No blow outs ever as 1-3' chop is the norm.
