on what a home made stick tower
on the mark 55h that i am putting
    together.
    i bought the tower,
    have attached
the power head and gear foot
    MY Q.
is the is there suppose to be a copper
water tube inside tower to allow water to carry
from foot to power head ?
this tower has two pipes the main one for the drive shaft
and smaller one for water to come from gear case to powerhead
should there be a coppertube inside this one or is not
    needed?
    thank you ralph

I run a mod 44xs dmh. Mine is made by my father and I and the smaller tube of the tower is the water tube. Be sure to use 518 loctite on bolting surfaces. Very thin layer.

      tower

      hello thanks for reply
i may not be asking correctly
      ,
the smaller tube that runs from the
gear foot to the powerhead is the tube going to
the power is the water tube ,
      Q. should there be a copper tube inside that tube also?
      sorry for any confusion
      my first stick tower.
want to make right first time

to use 518 loctite on bolting surfaces.
that is all do you need any gasket material along with locite?

      thank you ralph simmons (rookie)

        Tower

You don't need a copper tube. Make sure that the small tube lines up with the water exit hole on the Merc unit and the water intake hole on the block. You will need a spacer plate between the engine and Tower top plate for the botton main bearing to clear. A lot of people cut it out of a stock bottom Merc. pan or you can make one out of alum. . Some use stock gaskets (you can make them yourself) to seal the unit to the tower and power head to the top of the tower or you can use sealer.

Between foot and tower just the loctite. Between tower and power head gasket and loctite. Very thin coat. You will know why when you buy it. Plus you only need a little. Its around 25$ for less then 2 oz.

I do not know what the point of a 'gasket' is in a racing application.
All my mids , stock or custom, are machined flat and parallel on a mill,
so all I do is seal the water tube, if there is one, with RTV,
and a light smear of any thing that is on the bench.
and bolt it together. A fibre gasket just adds another layer,
and allows the two metal surfaces to slide around,
relative to each other, like a deck of cards.
To each his own, but works for me

              re stick tower

Here is a pic of an older 1 fro, Jimmy Merriman he raced the 55-H or D mod runabout

looks at back has 2 areas for water to come in on a D Quickie merc unit

it also had a lower unit mounting plate so no spacer is needed mayg it will spur the imagination

or i will sell this 1 next winter if it still have it i will remodeled to match my brinkman tower height

also have the bronze bushings that used to be in original 55-H stock tower they now belong with this w unit

is for sale if any 1 interested all welds are solid just needs a lil tlc and a paint job to be just like it was in the N.O.A. days -Am/Pro classes or a
it is where it was most raced

i have more pic if needed

Carl K put gaskets on the motors for a reason not just to make more work. I said you don't have to have them but they will work good. like someone said to each his on. I have towers we made in the 60's when they had to be the same spec. as the stock Merc alum tower.
