  • NBRA Short Course Nationals-Mc Alester OK

I removed my posting concerning testing at McAlester OK on Friday 22 June because the situation has changed. Unfortunately when I did that, it removed all the postings on that subject also. Sorry about that!

TESTING IS NOW ON FOR FRIDAY 22 JUNE STARTING AT 10AM AND RUNNING UNTIL 5PM. Jack

Thanks to all that worked on this misunderstanding. Nothing with our insurance has changed and all the paper work is go to go thanks to Ken Parks, Roy Mackey and Mellisa at the McAlester Chamber of Commerce. This is a good site to camp, but no hook ups. Plan to eat at some of the Italian restrauants in Mcalester.

Thanks Doc! I think this is a good move and it may bring a little more business into town.

Dudley and I met with the city officials and Melissa from the chamber today. We discuss the pits and all the factors that make up a good race site. This has a great place to see the race and protected for the south wind. We will have a hot pits that is close to the trailers. We enter from a slue that will keep the race course smooth. They are working on promotion of the race with radio ads. We can run a long course if the wind is not blowing too hard.

Leonard, I posted some comments on the NBRA web site concerning the proposed schedule for McAlester. Please look it over and let us know. Running 1/2 of 2 days worth on Sat and then the second half on Sunday has a risk that if blown out on Sunday, only half the folks got to race. If the weather is in any way questionable, I'd run a standard schedule format. Jack

You are right, we will not run that schedule unless we have two days that are clear and sunny, with light winds. The schedule is ok, but we will not repeat if the weather looks like it could change. Remember we will weight the boats, top five after each heat, so bring your lead.

                Address

What lake are we running on so we can plan the trip. Address would help also.

                  Course

I see you mention that you you may have a long course. The Short course Nats are to be run on a course no longer than 3/4 mile. Hence the name Short course Nats.

I use to have a course survyed when we put on a nat.s but now we just throw out the buoys. Since Braxton's boat is good at the short ones, I was worried someone would worry about that...Tell me what a 3/4 mile looks like. A mile course is long and we probably don't run one at Centrailia. Here is the GPS Address for McAlester. 149 Pelican Ave. 74501 You will see a banner from there, unless you arrive before the banner.

Will a GPS tell you how long the course is? If so will someone run the course and tell us how long it is...I like the 3/4 mile size, but Butch would set up a half mile course and we saved gas and got home early.

                          Course length

There could be many configurations to arrive at a 3/4 mile course.
If you wish to have quarter mile straights the beginging and ending bouys whould be 1320 feet and 373 feet apart. The middle bouy in a three bouy turn would be half way between the part of straightaway bouys and 187 feet past them at each end.

                          --------- X ............1320'............. X
                          187'
                          --- X 187' |..................................| 187' X
                          187'
                          --------- X ............1320'...............X

                          X = Bouy

                            Address

I find a house at that address? It is not near a lake. There are two lakes north of town is it either of those?

Leonard, I will measure the course. It can be done very easily using a GPS unit. I'll be there Thur afternoon. When I referee, I usually measure the course just so I know the run to the clock and then to the first turn. I usually share this information at the drivers meeting but failed to do any of that at Rockaway Beach. My bad! I will do it for Lucas and Centralia. I promise or will go to bed without dinner! Jack
