Can't really see how it makes a lot of difference.........
......what YOU want when that happens. People will make their own judgments and write what they want, if they write anything at all.
If you don't believe that, look at the memorials written here and on BRF the last few years for those who have passed recently.
I think what says the most is if SOMETHING was written. Only the most unfeeling would write something critical after someone was gone, and personally I could care less about that type whether I am cognizant or not.
If there is an answer to your question, at the end I think you can be a "winner" without ever having won a race, or be a big "winner" without much respect or many friends, so it could be either or both, based on your accomplishments, or lack of same both on and off the race course.
Either/or, it will not make a bit of difference to you at that point.
